Main building evacuated and emergency services present on Cardiff University campus

A large emergency services presence has been seen on Cardiff University campus this morning.

At approximately 11:15, South Wales Fire and Rescue service received reports of an ongoing incident on campus.

Alarms sounding from within the Cardiff University Main Building could be heard. The exact nature of the cause remains undisclosed at this time, pending a thorough investigation. However, the presence of emergency response vehicles suggests that authorities treated the incident as a high-priority matter.

At least three ambulances, police vans, and seven fire trucks have been seen on Cardiff University campus. In addition, several stretchers have been seen being taken into the building.

In adherence to safety protocols, campus authorities initiated a systematic evacuation of the affected areas within the Main Building. Students, faculty, and staff were directed to follow evacuation procedures to ensure their well-being.

A spokesman for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 11:13am on Tuesday 9 May 2023, we received reports of an incident on Park Place, Cardiff. Multiple crews are currently in attendance, alongside emergency service colleagues. This incident is ongoing.”
