Two men arrested on suspicion of murdering 23-year-old Cody Fisher in Birmingham nightclub

Police were called to reports of a stabbing at Crane on Boxing Day

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man on the dance floor of a Birmingham nightclub.

Cody Fisher, who was a footballer and sports coach at a local school, was stabbed to death just before midnight on Boxing Day at Crane nightclub in Digbeth.

West Midlands Police have confirmed they’ve arrested a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murdering the footballer.

The 22-year-old was arrested in the early hours of this morning at an address in Birmingham city centre whilst the 21-year-old was arrested in London.

It is believed Cody Fisher was approached by a group of people at Crane and was stabbed on the dance floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the club, 3o minutes after the attack took place.

Speaking about today’s arrests, DCI Ian Ingram, from West Midland Police’s Homicide team, said: “We’re making good progress in our investigation and are building a better picture of what happened.

“We’ve been really pleased with the response from the public and have already had a number of witness accounts and images sent through, which will help with our investigation.

“It’s vital that we hear from everybody who saw any part of what happened that night – no matter how insignificant they think it might be.

“Cody’s family and friends are devastated by what happened, and we’ll continue to work to bring them answers.”

The police had previously described Cody as a “young man enjoying himself with friends” and said hundreds of other people were at the nightclub when the stabbing took place.

Paying tribute to Cody, his family said: “They have broken our hearts; I have lost my best friend. My family and I are asking for privacy and respectfulness at this heart-breaking time.”
