Italian guys and Rome adventures: Netflix shares what’s next in Emily in Paris season five

I can’t wait to see Gabriel finally put in his place

Emily in Paris season four is finally out, and I can’t think of a bigger plot twist to end the show on than moving to Rome. Emily is starting a brand new life in a fancy new position in Rome with her gorgeous new Italian boyfriend – how exciting! However, I’m already thinking about what’s going to kick off in season five: Showrunner Darren Star spoke with Tudum to give us some sneak peeks on what the future will hold for our American girl. Here’s what we can expect from Emily in Paris season five.

Paris might not be completely in the rearview

Season four did the unthinkable for a show titled Emily in Paris: It moved her to Rome. Now Emily’s got her own apartment in Italy and is opening a Rome office for Agence Grateau. However, that doesn’t mean Paris is long gone for Emily in season five – Darren Star told Tudum that “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.” My best guess is that Emily’s going to be jumping between the two, maybe for business, or maybe to see a certain French man she left there…

Emily’s adventures might span across Europe

This one might be a bit of a stretch, but there’s the possibility that Emily will be going even further than Rome. Star mentioned how he has a desire to “stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places,” to “prove the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint.” Where to next? Barcelona? Berlin? Amsterdam? The possibilities are endless for our favourite marketing girlboss.

Things will heat up with her new Italian man, Marcello

I’m SO excited about this one. I’m getting really fed up with the Gabriel drama and I’d like to see him out of the picture, even if it’s just for a while. Emily has a great thing here in Italy and she deserves to be happy for once. Luckily for Gabriel haters, he’ll be about a lot more. Star said on the matter: “I feel like they have a real spark and real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.” Yay!

Emily will be better at having a work/life balance

If Emily’s anything, it’s work-driven. She gets most of her satisfaction from doing a great job, but the producers are keen for her to adopt a little more of that European work/life balance, and it’s even the reason Marcello’s getting more screen time. Lily Collins agrees.

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time,” Lily told Tudum.

Gabriel is finally going to face some hard truths

I am SO here for this. After seasons of being on and off, Gabriel and Emily finally called it quits, but it seems like Gabriel’s about to realise what a huge mistake he made. After receiving a voicenote from Emily all in French, he has this huge epiphany and realises he never should have let her go. However, Gabriel is going to have to live with the consequences of that decision now. “Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice,” Lily explained. I don’t mean to be dramatic but I’m praying on Gabriel’s downfall, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for Emily in Paris season five to make it happen.
