Meet the insanely iconic cast of Netflix’s live-action Avatar The Last Airbender

Ian Ousley is literally Sokka personified

Avatar The Last Airbender is releasing in late February and is Netflix’s chance to redeem previous horrific live-action adaptations of the iconic Nickelodeon cartoon with a whole new cast. It looks like it’s going to be great, and from the trailers released so far, they’ve really nailed the tone and feel of the original cartoon whilst still making it their own.

Whilst we’ll have to wait for February 22nd to see what the adaption is like, for now, we can meet the iconic cast of Netflix’s Avatar The Last Airbender.

Gordon Cormier – Aang

Gordon is the heart of Avatar The Last Airbender cast, as he is playing the role of Aang. So prepare for a shaven head and (hopefully) a fake tattoo on his forehead the next time you see him.

He’s just 14 years old and whilst he has appeared in several Canadian cartoon shows as a voice actor this will be his first mainstream acting role.

Kiawentiio – Katara

Kiawentiio is a First Nations actress, who previously appeared on season three of Netflix’s Anne with an E as Ka’kwet.

She’s 17 years old and even makes her own music, it doesn’t get much more vibey than that. If you’ve seen the trailers for Avatar the Last Airbender I think she looks like the perfect Katara and a great addition to the cast!

Ian Ousley – Sokka

Ian Ousley is the 20-year-old playing the comedic role of Sokka in the upcoming adaptation of Avatar the Last Airbender, and along with his trusty boomerang, he’s one of the core Team Avatar members.

Ian has been in a few shows before including three episodes of 13 Reasons Why where he played Robby Corman.

Dallas Liu – Zuko

Dallas here! He’ll be playing Prince Zuko, and he’s definitely got that classic resting moody face down to a tee.

Liu made his film debut as young Jin Kazama on Tekken, and also appeared as Awkwafina’s little brother Ruihua in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Elizabeth Yu – Azula

Elizabeth Yu is playing the terrifying Azula, and it’s funny to me because she genuinely looks like the cutest human on the planet. And if you needed further evidence of how wholesome she is, she’s been dating Dustin from Stranger Things for years now and they’re so adorable.

Her first acting credit only happened in 2022 and most recently she’s been cast in the film May December.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee – Iroh

I already know Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is going to be such an amazing Iroh and if they include Leaves from The Vine it’s going to be a guaranteed cry from me.

He also played family patriarch Appa in Kim’s Convenience so he was literally destined to be a part of the cast of Avatar The Last Airbender.

Daniel Dae Kim – Fire Lord Ozai

Daniel Dae Kim has joined the cast of Avatar The Last Airbender in the role of Fire Lord Ozai, the main villain of the series and Zuko and Azula’s father. He is known for his roles as Jin-Soo Kwon in Lost, Chin Ho Kelly in Hawaii Five-0, Gavin Park in Angel, and Johnny Gat in the Saints Row video game series.

James SieThe Cabbage Merchant

I honestly think the cabbage merchant is one of the most iconic characters from the whole Avatar The Last Airbender series and so they got none other than the original voice actor to reprise his role as part of the cast in the live-action version. Genuinely one of the characters I’m most excited to see.
