Anyone would be foolish to think that every single person who goes on to a dating reality TV show, like Married at First Sight, is only there to find love. When shows produce millionaires and reality TV superstars, why wouldn’t you give it a go yourself in the hopes it works out for you?

This year’s cohort of brides and grooms have been nothing but chaotic, from causing ridiculous drama to outright admitting they were seeing people days before the experiment, it’s clear a lot of them were not on their with the right intentions. MAFS Australia has shown its villains and heartthrobs, but between all of them who was just there to get that blue tick?

Beside from flat out admitting he went on the show to get famous, it was clear from day one that is all he was there for. Let’s cast our minds back to his and Bronte’s wedding when he was exposed for being with another woman just days before the experiment, something he later admitted to the experts. Now I know they don’t actually get married on the show, but it’s a pretty big deal to do the whole song and dance just to have your eyes wandering elsewhere.

During the experiment it became clear that Harrison was not interested in Bronte. Whether it was the countless arguments during their first days or wanting to stay together in spite of their arguments, it made no sense why they chose to stay together. To top it all off, Harrison was incredibly aware just how big he could get off the back of the show.

In an interview on Nova’s Nathan, Nat and Shaun, Harrison admitted his real motivation for going on the show. “I went on the show because I was looking to get into a relationship,” he began.

“I wanted to test myself. And I was pretty open about the fact that at least if that didn’t work out, being famous also has its advantages. So I’m just going to come out and say that’s probably the two main motivations for most people going on the show, is that they’re either going to meet the person of their dreams or their going to get that blue tick.”

Adam gave off big ‘I know how to work a camera’ energy, especially considering he had been on three TV shows before appearing on MAFS Australia. His treatment of Janelle proves he had no genuine interest of being of finding love on the experiment. Why cheat on your wife when the whole premise of the show is to find the love of your life?

Before the cheating scandal was even revealed, Adam kept it from Janelle for weeks. If the relationship wasn’t working out, something which Adam says himself, why stay with her?

Bronte

Now Bronte is a sweetheart but there were times you just couldn’t help but wonder why she decided to stay with Harrison. When it came to the first commitment ceremony, Bronte stayed with Harrison, despite him saying they had no sexual chemistry and they had been arguing non stop.

Bronte hasn’t openly said she went on the show for fame, but she did know her socials were going to “blow up” as a result of it.

Speaking to So Dramatic, Bronte said: “Did I think, ‘Oh my gosh I’m going to be quite well known after this?’ Of course I did! Everybody does but that all really depends on who you’re matched with and how you’re portrayed. It can go one of two ways.

“I definitely don’t think fame and fortune and blue ticks and all that crap was ever on my mind during the experiment. But did I think my socials were going to blow up? Of course I did, of course.”

I have to give where credit where it’s due because Claire did genuinely seem remorseful when Jesse found out about her kissing Adam, but in the same thought, why stay with Jesse in the experiment if your eyes were going to wander elsewhere. Claire openly admitted Adam was giving her the affection she wanted from Jesse, so surely there was no real need to stay with him after that.

Even when Jesse had made it clear to Claire he wanted to leave the experiment after the cheating scandal came to light, she wrote stay and they had remain in the experiment, which equally led to more TV time.
