After eight episodes of tense, dramatic and emotional scenes, Bridgerton actually ended on a seemingly happy note. There was a baby, the reveal of Lady Whistledown’s identity and Colin setting off to travel the world. The finale episode also ended with a dedication to Brian Nickels.

As the last scene of the bumblebee concluded a short but sweet dedication came up on the screen before the credits that read: “In Loving Memory of Brian Nickels”.

But just who was the man the Netflix series was dedicated to? Brian Nickels was a stunt performer who had been working in the film and TV industry for over 20 years before his death in January 2020.

Who was Brian Nickels, the person the series finale of Bridgerton was dedicated to?

Brian Nickels was born on 17th August 1965, and he spent the early part of his career as a professional boxer before retiring at age 25.

He then became a stunt performer in many movies and TV shows including Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Killing Eve, Jurassic World and many, many more.

Brian died unexpectedly last year on the 15th January from a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Simone and their two children – Sienna and Rocco.

After his death a GoFundMe was set up in his name to support his wife and children, once the fundraiser was closed it had reached just over £35,000.

What was Brian Nickels’ role in Bridgerton?

Brian is credited as a stunt co-ordinator for Bridgerton and pictures of him on social media have shown him working on the boxing scenes.

Martins Imhangbe, who played the Duke’s friend Will, posted a dedication to Brian shortly after his death to thank him for being such a positive influence in his life.

He wrote: “Brian, immensely grateful that our paths crossed and for the dynamic and positive impact you’ve had in my life for the past months – you’ve always had my corner and filled me with uber confidence on and off set with your infectious enthusiasm and passion for what you do – you’ve been an incredible coach and friend.

“Struggling to accept that you’re no longer here with us. And my heart goes out to the family. You are a legend and a gent who will never be forgotten – rest in love and peace.”
