The real reason Hilary Musser split from billionaire husband before Members Only: Palm Beach
'It's not like I split up with him on his way up or down'
Hilary Musser is no longer married to billionaire Pete Musser, but there’s a shocking reason for why she left him all those years ago. She’s had five marriages, as we all found out on Netflix‘s new show Members Only: Palm Beach, including a split from Pete in April 2005.
She claims she married him a month after his financial troubles began, but in April 2005, they separated. That’s when Hilary left town, her son in tow, to begin a new life in Palm Beach, where her total value of closed sales is believed to be $61.7 million.
So, how did Hilary, who was Pete’s second wife, begin dating him? Well, she had a liver tumour at the time, and when Pete revealed his true feelings for her, she claims she “ran away.” She told Philadelphia Magazine: “I didn’t really think of Pete as someone I would date.”

Revealing they were friends for two years before they got together, Hilary said: “Then I got very sick and almost died; I had a liver tumour. Shortly before that, he told me how he felt about me, and I sort of ran away. It didn’t matter if I was 29 and he was 67 or 68.”
“So that’s how we started. Everybody thought I was just some young girl fascinated by his stature and money, but I fell in love with him,” she added. However, that happy marriage eventually came to an end, after Pete lost nearly all his fortune following the dot com crash.
During the dot com boom around 2000, Peter had a large stake in Safeguard Scientifics and was worth over $1 billion. However, after the crash he lost almost everything and sadly had to sell a lot of his assets in order to repay his debts.
“The only reason we split up is because Pete is a bit of a ladies’ man,” she revealed. “It’s not like I chose to split up with him when he was on his way up or down. I didn’t really plan that. I took my marriage vows a little more seriously than that.”
