Axed Love Island Games star announces he’ll wait for Lucinda in painfully cringe love letter
'Maybe it’s a sign from above'
When it comes to Love Island, romance doesn’t always end when a contestant leaves the villa. And in the case of Love Island Games’ Mert, it seems absence has only made the heart grow fonder.
After being dumped from the show, the Turkish Islander decided to pour his heart out in a handwritten note to Lucinda and then shared the whole thing on Instagram for the world to see.
The gesture has everyone divided, with some swooning at the grand declaration and urging people to vote Lucinda out next, while others… well, let’s just say they’re cringing to high heaven right now.
Mert was axed from Love Island Games
Mert’s time in the villa came to a close after he was dumped from the competition on day five. While his exit didn’t come as a huge shock to some, what followed certainly did.
Rather than quietly slipping back into life outside the villa, Mert immediately took to Instagram to pen an emotional message to Lucinda, the girl he’d clearly fallen for during his time on the show.
The post showed a picture of his handwriting in a notebook, with a caption that read more like a diary entry than your standard Islander exit statement.
“Even though my time in the villa has ended, and tbh it didn’t feel fair, still grateful for everything,” he began, thanking viewers for their support before turning his focus to Lucinda.
From there, things got seriously intense. Mert told Lucinda that “everything happens for a reason” and that he was “so grateful” to have met her.
He admitted that life without her already felt “so different” and signed off by telling her, “I wait for you. I mean this from the bottom of my heart. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”
People are cringing at his love letter
While some fans praised Mert for being so open with his feelings, others couldn’t help but find the whole thing a little over the top. After all, Love Island declarations of love are usually saved for the firepit, not IG notes from outside the villa.
Comments ranged from people calling the letter “sweet but desperate” to others labelling it “painfully cringe.” The fact that he declared he would “wait” for Lucinda after only a short time together in the villa left many viewers raising their eyebrows.
For some, it was proof that Mert is genuinely smitten, but for others, it came across as performative and slightly embarrassing.
Everyone who watches Love Island is used to dramatic exits, teary speeches, and promises of undying love, but Mert’s post has added a new layer of reality TV intensity.
Whether Lucinda will respond with equal enthusiasm remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this is one Love Island love story that’s playing out as much on Instagram as it did in the villa.
