*Trigger warning: This article contains references to racism and suicide* The Roast of Kevin Hart aired on Netflix last night, and, unsurprisingly, a lot of insults were thrown around, including a cutting dig from Pete Davidson aimed at Tony Hinchcliffe – but there’s more than one reason he took shots at the podcaster. Hosted by Shane Gillis and part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2026, the nearly-three-hour event is now streaming on Netflix and is packed full of celebrity cameos. Chelsea Handler, Sheryl Underwood, Lizzo, Katt Williams, and The Rock are among just some of the famous faces who turned up to throw shots. Then there was Tony Hinchcliffe, the comedian who hosts Kill Tony, a live podcast stand-up comedy show often featuring other celebs like Gillis and Joe Rogan. His entire career is built around roasting, and so Pete Davidson decided to give him some back – but it seems his dig at The Roast of Kevin Hart had more than one intention behind it. Why Pete Davidson called Tony Hinchcliffe a ‘Nazi’ during the Kevin Hart roast Pete Davidson made a Charlie Kirk joke toward Tony Hinchcliffe and calls Ye a ‘gay Nazi’ during Kevin Hart’s roast. “Tony reminds me of Charlie Kirk, and that’s he’s definitely been on camera letting a guy unload in his throat. Oh you don’t know me? yeah ‘Kill Tony.’ Please… pic.twitter.com/JGmZMX2AAk — FearBuck (@FearedBuck) May 11, 2026 Davidson’s choice of insult wasn’t random. Hinchcliffe has repeatedly faced backlash over offensive material throughout his career, more recently after a racist joke made during a Donald Trump rally. But that’s not all, as Davidson’s risqué joke was also a way to poke fun at his beef with Kanye West, aka Ye, which began when Pete started dating Kim Kardashian. During the Netflix show, the SNL comedian said, “Tony [Hinchcliffe] reminds me of Charlie Kirk, in that he’s definitely been on camera letting a guy unload in his throat.” While the crowd audibly gasped, Tony just threw his head back and laughed. Pete then said, “Tony, nothing you say tonight will hurt my feelings. I was in a beef with Kanye, so I’ve taken shots from better gay nazis.” For the uninitiated, in October 2024, the MAGA campaign invited Hinchcliffe to perform a set at a rally in Madison Square Garden, where he said, “There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” He also suggested Latinos “love making babies”, perpetuated racist stereotypes about Black people, and called Palestinians rock-throwers, while also suggesting Jewish people don’t like to spend money. In 2021, Hinchcliffe was said to have been “cancelled” over backlash to him using a racist slur against Asian people during a stand-up set. Do they have beef? But given Hinchcliffe’s entire comedy style revolves around brutal roasting, Davidson has long been an easy target on Kill Tony. There have been multiple jokes about his dating life, as well as his work as a comedian, as he’s repeatedly targeted Saturday Night Live on the podcast. Hinchcliffe also took aim at this during The Roast of Kevin Hart, while even tying in a brutal joke about Davidson’s firefighter father, who died responding to the September 11 attacks. “Nobody can name a sketch or a joke you’ve done, Pete. If your father could see how you turned out, he’d be rolling in his rubble,” Hinchcliffe said. There’s also backlash over a Sheryl Underwood joke His bit towards actress and comedian Sheryl Underwood has also sparked controversy among viewers. Tony Hinchcliffe did not hold back at the Kevin Hart roast 😭 “Her (Sheryl Underwood) husband commited suicide 3 years into the marriage, I’ve been sitting next to her for 2 hours and I have to ask how did he last that long” pic.twitter.com/N1cz0TqgFE — FearBuck (@FearedBuck) May 11, 2026 Hinchcliffe said, “Her husband committed suicide three years into their marriage. I’ve been sitting next to her for two hours and I have to ask, ‘How did he last that long?’” This is in reference to Michael Sparkman, Underwood’s late husband who died by suicide in 1990. Underwood gave it back, saying, “Question for the day is: Who has had more Black d*ck in this town? Me or Chelsea Handler? The answer is Tony Hinchcliffe.” While numerous viewers at home described Hinchcliffe’s joke as “too far,” some online have also criticised Underwood for laughing at the joke.
