Sister Sage spent most of season five episode seven of The Boys wallowing in self-pity and binging Love Island. Finally, a character on this show we can all relate to! The actor who portrays Sister Sage in The Boys – Susan Heyward – has gone into detail about what crucial mistake led to her downfall. This totally changes how I see that character. According to Susan Heyward, Sister Sage screwed everything up because of a flaw in how her specific superpower abilities work. She explained to Nerdist: “Eric Kripke [the showrunner] and I talked a lot about how her power works, and how she’s always measuring possibilities and hypotheticals. She’s thinking of the world in percentages. So, in her mind, there’s an 87 per cent chance that when Soldier Boy sees a video of Homelander and Clara together, he’s not going to like it. She really screwed up with the V-One(Image via Prime Video) “But the probability that love for Clara would switch something in Soldier Boy wasn’t seen. He’s such a performer of patriarchy, and that he would be self-sacrificial was surprising. We’ve not seen that from him. And I think she didn’t really imagine that possibility at all.” Susan Heyward reckons Sage didn’t think of this possibility because she herself hasn’t really experienced much love from other people. “Her parents let her get shot up with V. She’s experienced her grandmother’s love certainly, but she’s gone now. After that, it’s just one relationship after another of someone trying to use her … The willingness to sacrifice, to humble yourself in the name of love, is unthinkable for her.” Woah, that’s so tragic. This scene changed everyone’s brain chemistry, to be fair(Image via Prime Video) Apparently, Frenchie dying to protect Kimiko was “the second huge lesson in self-sacrificial love she gets in two days”. Susan teased that this will have a big impact on how Sister Sage behaves in the finale of The Boys. “At the top of episode eight, we find her really considering what it would be like to change course for the first time. ” Eek, I can’t wait.
