‘It’s not a tribute’: Paris Jackson opens up about ‘honest’ lyrics she’s written about dad Michael

Paris Jackson has opened up about the lyrics of some of her new songs, which are assumed to be about her relationship growing up with father Michael Jackson. 

She is releasing two songs, which will honour her late father, who died in 2009. She announced the new music on the 29th August, which would have been her father’s birthday. 

Announcing the releases, alongside a cute photo of herself as a baby, Paris said: “It’s not a tribute. It’s not a commemoration. It’s not a demonstration of any kind. It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience — with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one. The breeze // just me and you double-single out now.”

Paris spoke more about the tracks and what inspired them in an interview with Zane Lowe. She said:  “I’m so proud of this double single. I’m so proud of my coming into my own as a producer and coming into my own as a songwriter and also saying f*ck the rules, we’re not gonna have a chorus, we’re not gonna have a bridge.

“The first one’s gonna be a letter, and like kind of spoken word, and the second one is gonna be some verses and a chorus with a weird instrumental thing at the end.” She said that “by no means” are the two tracks “a message” as she’s “going to keep the rest of it to myself for now.”

The song “breeze” definitely has lyrics which feel as though she could be talking of Michael Jackson. Some of the lines in the song include: “Can we just meet for just a moment? Can you hold me? Cause I’m so broken. Lose a mask. Send me an omen. Take each task and I’ll stay focused.”

In “just me and you” they read: “I’ll see you in my sleep. They won’t need to stare. It’s just you and me. There’s no need to keep them amused. Got nothing to prove when it’s me and you.”

In darker lines, Paris mentions some she loves being “eaten alive” before they died, and this contiuing after death. She sang: “Sucking on your bones is the final act… They ate you alive… Would you look at that? Even in death, when there’s nothing left.”

This comes just weeks after the 28-year-old model, actress, and singer went on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast and spoke in detail about the first seven years of her life, with her father. 

In the chat, Paris said she has really fond memories of her father, calling him a “really funny guy” before she emotionally said: “That was my best friend.” She also referred to herself as his “little princess”.
