Viral inmate who got pregnant via an air vent without sleeping with anyone is found guilty
Well that’s not something you hear every day
A woman who went viral last year for getting pregnant in jail via an air vent has now been found guilty of murdering her husband in 2022.
Daisy Link conceived a child with another inmate at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade, Florida, by passing his semen through an air conditioning vent while she was awaiting her trial.
The baby’s dad, Joan Depaz, was an inmate on the floor above her. They started a romantic relationship by speaking and passing notes through the vents.
“You would knock on it and you can hear the people from the different floors,” she said. “You would stand on the toilet and actually to be able to talk to them,” she told 7 News Miami.
“Being in isolation for so long, you begin to spend hours and hours talking to this person, you know, to the point where it’s almost as if you’re in the same room as them.”
They then came up with a wild plan to try and have a baby by passing semen wrapped in cling film through the vent using a chain of bedding tied together – and it worked.

“I put the semen in Saran Wrap every day like five times a day for like a month straight,” he explained.
She added: “He would kind of like roll it up almost like a cigarette and he would attach it to the line that we had in the vent, and I was pulling it through.”
It only took a few times before she became pregnant. The mother said: “I can’t believe it worked. I think everything happened for a reason. She’s a miracle baby. She’s a blessing.”

A medical director at the Fertility Center of Miami, Dr. Fernando Akerman, revealed the chances of their plan being successful were “less than five per cent” making this “exceedingly unusual”.
The inmate gave birth to the baby in June 2025, who is living with Depaz’s mother. Link asked for an early release due to the pregnancy, but her request was declined.
Earlier in October, the trial took place and Link was found guilty of second-degree murder after fatally shooting her husband Pedro Jimenez at their home in 2022, CBS News Miami reports. Her lawyers said he was “out of control, unhinged, and dangerous”.
They had been together for nine years and had two kids. Their 11-year-old son testified, claiming he saw his dad “point the gun at my mom and he fired a shot but he missed”. She then fatally shot him in the leg.
Link hasn’t been sentenced yet. A pre-sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 21st November.
