Selena Gomez is getting dragged for wearing the same wedding dress as Justin Bieber’s ex

Selena Gomez married music producer Benny Blanco in Santa Barbara over the weekend, and the wedding looked like something out of a fairytale. The 33-year-old actress and singer shared photos online, giving everyone a glimpse of the extravagant big day.

Selena wore a gown featuring a dramatic halter neckline, ruffled detailing, and intricate lace. While she looked beautiful, people couldn’t help noticing her dress looked suspiciously like the one Justin Bieber’s ex Sofia Richie wore on her big day, when she married music executive Elliot Grainge in 2023. Bieber and Richie dated briefly in 2016.

Richie’s dress featured a shockingly similar lace halter-style bodice and a sweeping train just like Selena’s. The side-by-side comparisons circulating show just how alike the two gowns appear, right down to the delicate bouquets: Gomez carried baby’s breath while Richie held lily of the valley. “Selena wearing the same dress as Sofia Richie, one of Justin Bieber’s ex-girlfriends. She just can’t do anything without tying it back to her ex,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“For Selena’s next wedding she seriously needs to hire different wedding planners and stylists because why does it look like Sofia Richie’s… WHY DOES NOBODY WANNA BE DIFFERENT,” another said.

Some people even suggested Gomez had borrowed not just Richie’s aesthetic but also Justin Bieber’s taste in wedding planners. Both she and Bieber reportedly worked with celebrity planner Mindy Weiss to coordinate their weddings.

The former couple’s relationship started in 2011 when she was just 18 and he was 16, but ended in 2018 – just months before he married his now-wife Hailey Bieber, 28.

On the same day as Gomez celebrated her new marriage, Bieber posted to Instagram with his track I Do playing in the background, a song many believe is dedicated to his wife, Hailey. Naturally, the timing raised eyebrows, with plenty of people wondering whether it was a subtle dig at his ex.

Gomez’s marriage to Blanco marks a fresh chapter after years of highly publicised relationships, including her on-again, off-again romance with Bieber. But with the online noise over dresses, planners, and even Instagram comments, it seems this chapter won’t escape its share of drama either.
