Join us at our open meeting at Luther’s on 25th September at 7pm

Fancy trying out journalism? Or updating your CV? Or even just joining a super fun (hot) community of writers? Join The Newcastle Tab.

Come along to our open meeting at Luther’s Bar in the Newcastle Uni Students’ Union on 25th September at 7pm.

It doesn’t matter if you’re first, second, third, fourth, or even fifth year, we want you. Both Northumbria and Newcastle students with all levels of experience (or none at all) are welcome.

What is The Tab?

The Tab has something for every student; from writing breaking news and fun features to social media management, there are so many opportunities for anyone who chooses to join us. You can write articles, create memes and TikToks or just come along for a chin wag at our meetings every week.

From Exeter to Edinburgh, 29 uni cities have a Tab, and The Newcastle Tab is one of the biggest, boasting over 19k followers on Instagram as well as a large student readership. This means it’s an ideal way to get your work out there.

Recent stories have covered it all: breaking news from Newcastle Uni’s compensation scheme to giant Squid Game dolls on the Quayside, and features from the best nights out in the Toon to Sam Fender’s St James’ takeover.

Why should you write for The Tab?

As a writer for The Newcastle Tab, your stories will be seen by thousands of readers across the country, the perfect opportunity for a budding journalist. Tab alumni have gone on to work for publications such as the BBC, The Guardian, Vogue, ITV, Buzzfeed, Vice, The Times and many more.

There is no pressure or strict deadlines, we get that social lives and university work are important, so The Tab is completely flexible around that. Write however much you want, whenever you want.

It doesn’t matter what degree you’re doing and there is no experience necessary. Our editorial team will work with you to coach and improve your writing. Plus, the team work alongside an Assistant Editor based at the London HQ who will provide training and support. Access to their professional advice is a huge benefit of joining The Tab.

It’s also a really good way to meet new people. From weekly meetings to socials, The Newcastle Tab is a friendly group of like-minded students who love journalism and have a great time while doing it.

See you there xx
