With Freshers’ Week approaching fast, it’s important to be clued up on locations that will provide you the best night out and great value for money. Lancaster may be on the smaller side in terms of UK cities, but that doesn’t stop us from partying it up with a bundle of themed society nights or casual drinking with friends.
So, in order to reach your full Freshers’ Week potential, here are all of the must-visit places for a night out with the greatest student deals, leading to the best worst hangover of your life.
Whether you’re new to Lancaster, looking for inspiration to plan your Freshers’ nights out or a second/third year looking to refresh your memory of the city’s pubs, clubs, and bars in 2025 – look no further.
Pendle Witch

Pendle Witch is one of the most popular pubs in Lancaster. Whether you’re looking for a quiet night with a couple of drinks or somewhere to start your evening, this is the place to be. The pub has great student-friendly prices and is a popular location to soak up some sun in their large beer garden.
Sir Richard Owen’s Wetherspoons
You can never go wrong by starting the night off in Spoons, with two pitchers for £13, two cocktails for £7 and cheap drinks all around. It’s the perfect place to get drunk on a student budget.
Staggard Inn

With a great atmosphere and triple vodkas for £3, every Wednesday, Staggard Inn should be an essential stop-off point during your Wednesday nights out. Additionally, its large space and plentiful seating area means that it is a great spot if you see it on your favourite society’s bar crawl.
Greens
With not only incredible music and a designated dance floor, Greens is a necessary stop for the whole year round. Greens is the best for that in-between-a-pub-and-a-club vibe, with a more laid back atmosphere whilst still blasting the banging tunes.
Mint

In addition to selling cheap shots to give you that extra buzz, Mint, Lancaster’s longest running cocktail bar, is open every day for lots of funky cocktails – perfect if you’re looking for a quieter night out with friends.
The Crafty Scholar
Otherwise known as “Crafties,” The Crafty Scholar is the place to go if you want to watch the football on the big screen during the day, or to take advantage of the dance floor at night. The venue also offers various student deals in addition to using the MiXR app alongside Pendle Witch.
In terms of clubs, Lancaster has three main nightclubs, all of which should be visited as soon as possible.
The Sugarhouse
Lancaster’s biggest and only student nightclub, run by the Students’ Union, holds regular events with previous themed nights such as, Swiftogeddon (an unmissable night for the Swifties), British Icons, Naughty 2000’s, R&B and Indie nights, and lots, lots more. Wristbands for Freshers’ Week are being sold for £20 and will be advertised through their Instagram page.
Vibe
Boasting two floors of different music and lots of different events, as advertised on Vibe’s Instagram this spot is definitely worth visiting on a night out with friends. Not feeling your normal bars and looking for an alternative? Well, Vibe has you covered.
Generation
Whilst seen as a smaller nightclub, Generation has an energetic atmosphere and offers various student deals as well as variety nights, such as karaoke and special discount evenings. Make sure to go before midnight to avoid paying for entry, too!
