After days of tweets and comments about her outfit and millions of views across TikTok and Instagram, she decided to respond to the wave of attention.

“I LOVE the fact that the LAST photograph of me as TESS taken backstage in costume from my surprise appearance at @elcapitanthtre to support #freakierfriday has gotten more attention than any other since the announcement post with @lindsaylohan that sparked the movie getting made!” she said in a new Instagram post.

“Happy to help spread the joy that our movie shares!”

The Oscar-winning actress originally wore the outfit to surprise people at a Tess lookalike screening of Freakier Friday at El Captain Theatre in Los Angeles. She also uploaded a bunch of TikToks in her Tess-inspired costume.

“There are many, many actresses who love dressing up, who love clothes, who love fashion, who love being a model. I. Hate. It. I feel like I am having to wrestle with your idea of me versus my idea of me. Because I’ve worked hard to establish who I am, and I don’t want you to. I have struggled with it my whole life.”
