These are officially the 10 highest ranking unis that are offering clearing courses

If your A-Level grades weren’t what you expected, then don’t panic. There’s still hope. Loads of amazing UK unis still have courses available through clearing, both for UK and international students. Here’s your handy guide to which of the highest ranked UK unis in 2025’s Complete University Guide still have clearing courses on offer this Results Day.

Now, lots of the highest ranked UK unis – the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, the London School of Economics, and the University of St Andrews – don’t bother with UCAS clearing. But loads of other really well renowned unis do.

Places at these unis tend to go pretty quickly – especially for UK applicants. You have been warned.

The number by each uni refers to where it ranked in the Complete University Guide for 2026, by the way.

So, here are the 10 highest ranked unis in the Complete University Guide that still have courses available through clearing. Good luck with your quest.

University of Bristol – 15th

Bristol is one of the Russell Group unis with spots still available through clearing. Bristol has a whopping 275 courses on offer to both UK and International students. There’s an amazing selection of subjects on offers still – who knew you could do a whole degree in palaeontology and evolution?

University of Birmingham – 14th

Just 10 courses are still available to UK students through clearing. Some only require three Bs. But there are many, many more spots available to international students, across over 50 subjects.

University College London (UCL) – 13th

Breaking news: UCL now has courses in clearing. There are just 27 subjects on offer, and places seem to be going quickly. I would stop reading The Tab articles and start phoning.

University of York – 12th

If you do go to York, prepare to hear about ducks non-stop

York has well over 200 courses on offer to UK and international students through clearing this year. Fill your boots. Some competitive courses have separate phone lines, so double check you’ve got the correct number before you ring and beg.

University of Exeter – 11th

If you can tolerate the rugby boys, lacrosse girls, and general southern-ness of Exeter, you’e in luck! The uni still has 86 clearing courses available to UK students, and 231 on offer to international students.

Lancaster University – 10th

Lancs is guaranteeing accommodation for any freshers who apply through clearing, which is a huge help. The uni has a dazzling array of courses available through clearing in 2025. There are literally hundreds to pick between.

University of Warwick – 9th

Warwick is a top ten uni, and a Russell Group uni. 177 courses are on offer through clearing, so make haste. Most are STEM, but there a lots of options for Classics, modern languages and theatre sprinkled into the mix.

University of Bath – 8th

Bath would be a very aesthetic place to go to uni

Most of the spots on Bath courses have already been nabbed. UK students can still apply for the MPharm Pharmacy degree in the uni’s Plymouth campus. There are still places for international students on 59 courses – mostly engineering, economics and science courses.

Loughborough University – 7th

Loughborough isn’t as famous as some other UK unis, but it’s had a massive glow-up over the last few years, and actually came seventh in the Complete University Guide this year. 235 different courses are available through clearing, including foundation years and lots of courses with opportunities to do a placement year.

Durham University – 5th

Um, so Durham has already filled up the clearing places for UK students. Sorry. But international students can still apply. Ahead of Results Day, 85 Durham courses were listed as being available through clearing on the Complete University Guide website.
