The many, many times Molly-Mae tried to dramatically cut Love Island out of her life

Wait, why’s she famous again?

Molly-Mae just posted a video in which she reacted to her unearthed Love Island audition type, which is wild because she seems to have spent the last seven years pretending she didn’t go on the show. Her break-up with Tommy wasn’t nearly as dramatic as her break-up with Love Island. Here are the many, many times Molly-Mae Hague attempted to distance herself from Love Island, and failed to convince us all she had no connection to the show that made her so famous in the first place.

There are no almost traces of her Love Island past on her socials

Most reality TV contestants will mention what they are actually famous for in their Instagram bios. Not Molly-Mae. She removed this from her Instagram bio pretty much as soon as she was out the villa. There’s no mention of Love Island in the description of her YouTube channel, or her TikTok, or the “about us” section of her clothing company Maebe‘s website. If you scroll right down to the depths of her Instagram, you’ll find 12 posts about her being on the show. And nothing else.

My evidence

She said she wants to avoid the ‘stereotype’ of Love Islanders

In a Q&A on her YouTube, someone asked Molly-Mae what she thought of the new Love Island cast. Molly-Mae explained she wasn’t planning on discussing the show, because she’d tried to distance her self from Love Island.

She said: “Obviously, for like the last two years, I’ve spent so much time not necessarily removing myself, because my job was an influencer before, but I kind of just wanted to go back to doing what I was doing before, without that brand of being like, a Love Islander, or just being known for that. So I definitely have spent a lot of time since I came out of the show removing myself from that stereotype, and by doing that I just don’t speak about it a lot.”

Molly-Mae was an influencer before her stint on Love Island. She had around 75,000 followers when the show started, then 2.6 million followers by the final.

Her aesthetic totally changed

Remember the messy hair bun, the intense spray-tan, the neon bikinis, the bejewelled bodycon dresses? Molly-Mae quickly switched that up for naturalistic make-up, and a never-ending supply of trackies and blazers in various shades of grey, beige and white. What a vibrant chest-of-drawers she must have.

She also looks quite different from her time on Love Island because she dissolved some of the fillers in her cheeks and jaw, and stopped getting lip injections.

Molly-Mae claimed she was so successful… because she wasn’t associated with Love Island?

Right after Molly-Mae was inexplicably made creative director of Pretty Little Thing, she told The Sun she’s been “distancing” herself from Love Island “from the very start”. She said: “When I came out of Love Island, I never wanted to be known as a Love Islander because I felt it closed me off to a lot of other opportunities that I have now explored in the way I distanced myself. I don’t believe, if I had stuck with ‘I’m just a Love Islander, I’m just a Love Islander’, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here now as the creative director of PLT [Pretty Little Thing].

“It wasn’t necessarily all strategic but definitely from the start I have worked on distancing myself and not just being capped as being known as one thing. I think when you come out of that show, the opportunities are endless, it just depends on how much you want to work and how much you want to run with it.”

She literally admitted to only going on Love Island for her career

It’s reality TV etiquette that you have to pretend you actually went on the dating show to find love, not find brands to collab with. Molly-Mae seems to have broken this unspoken rule. She legit said in Molly-Mae: Behind It All: “I was going on Love Island because I knew the kind of work I was in, it was going to help me. I did go into Love Island as a business move, but I did end up finding love.” Awww.
