Lancaster University places in global top 100 for nine subjects, according to new rankings

Nine subjects at Lancaster University have placed within the global top 100 globally in the QS World University Subject Rankings.

Three subjects have also placed in the top 50.

The QS World University Rankings rank over 5,000 universities’ courses based on student experience, research opportunities and quality, employer recognition and the quality of teaching from academic staff.

The university itself is also ranked on its sustainability and commitment to have a positive environmental and social impact on its surroundings.

Lancaster University’s linguistics department has once again been named as third in the world, beating the likes of Oxford and Cambridge to make the podium.

The linguistics department at Lancaster has consistently performed well, with the University itself admitting that the department has “been at the forefront of Linguistics teaching and research for decades”.

The two other subjects which placed in the global top 50 are English language and literature (38th) and marketing (48th), both holding onto their spots from the 2024 rankings.

Lancaster University has come joint 66th with Durham University for modern languages, both with a score of 77.1. Meanwhile, sociology comes 67th globally, joint with KU Leuven, a Belgian institution, and accounting ranked joint 90th amongst the likes of the University of Florida and University of North Carolina.

Business and management studies came at joint 99th with University of Illinois and the University of Washington, narrowly joining the top 100.

Regarding areas such as statistics and operational research, and data science and artificial intelligence, Lancaster University has also placed in the global top 100.

Lancaster University also ranked joint 68th for sustainability (alongside Sorbonne University), with an overall score of 89.6.
