The ultimate guide to the best nights out for Warwick students
Yes, there are still fun things to do while being a broke uni student during assignment season
The University of Warwick has long been overshadowed by its location—Coventry, a city often (unfairly) dubbed the “dead city.” But let’s be real: A major highlight of being a uni student is going out with your friends, whether it’s hitting the dance floor at a club or just chilling in a pub.
So, how do you make the most of Warwick’s nightlife if you live in the so called “dead city”? Turns out, there’s actually a lot to do. Here’s a guide to the best nights out for Warwick students – without completely draining your bank account.
1. ‘Quackstar’ karaoke at Dirty Duck
The Dirty Duck (aka DD) is a popular campus hangout and every Wednesday it turns into a chaotic fun-filled karaoke spot. Whether you’ve got the voice of an angel or sound like a dying cat, Quackstar karaoke is the perfect place to grab a drink, meet new people, and shamelessly scream the lyrics to a pop classic.
2. Copper Room events
If you’re already at Dirty Duck for pre drinks, or circling in the SU, you might as well head down to Copper Rooms for one of their iconic club nights. Events like POP! and Skool Dayz give you the perfect excuse to dress up, get drunk with your mates, and vibe in a room full of tipsy students. If you’re looking for a night of classic singalong tunes and themed outfits, Copper Rooms is your best bet.
3. Clubbing
Most Read
If you’re in a party mood and ready to take it off campus, clubs like Smack and Neon are the way to go. Known for their afforadable drinks, solid music and chaotic energy, these clubs are student favourites. Smack Tuesdays are known for fun and wild stories so expect it to be busy and get your queue jump. If you want to start your weekend off the right way then make sure to head to Neon on Friday for great music, cheap drinks and multiple floors of club fun. If you’d rather a slightly more chill clubbing vibe, there’s Kelseys that offers dancing, pool tables and exclusive club night events, as well as hosting circles.
4. Pubs
If clubbing isn’t your vibe, Leamington has plenty of great pubs to hit up instead. There’s of course Spoons, there’s Old Library, Bedford Street, Fizzy Moon, The Clarendon and so many more. You can also visit Coventry for pubs, for example the City Arms Wetherspoons that has a student-friendly vibe and cheap drinks.
5. Pub quiz nights
If you want to end the night on a competitive note then you can also head to pub quiz spots such as The Dirty Duck on campus and The Drawing Board in Leamington – who regularly host pub quizzes where you and your mates can compete for ultimate bragging rights (and maybe even some free drinks).
6. The theatre
Not every night out has to be about drinking and partying. If you’re in the mood for something different, head to The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. Its perfect to watch some of the best up and coming comedians perform live and if you are into theatre, you can also book tickets to watch live adaptations of some of your favourite plays. There is also The Loft theatre in Leamington. It’s a great way to unwind and enjoy a night out without a hangover the next morning.
