The Buffy sequel is coming! Here are all the cast who’ve been teasing their return

Sarah Michelle Gellar knows what she’s doing with the ‘yummy sushi’ pyjamas

It’s quite hard to put into words how excited I am that a Buffy sequel series is actually said to be on its way, and this isn’t even a joke or a mess around but a genuine thing that’s happening. Whilst it’s all very “in the works” and as per a source right now, there’s cold hard facts that we know to be true. Lila and Nora Zuckerman are said to be penning a pilot for Hulu, with Oscar winner director Chloe Zhao (Eternals and Nomadland). Even more exciting of course is the news that Sarah Michelle Gellar is said to be in final talks to return as Buffy Summers – and the cast are lowkey teasing about the news on social media. Here’s who from the OG cast might be making a return in the Buffy reboot sequel as per social media posting. Buckle up.

What we know about the Buffy reboot so far

According to a story in Variety, a pilot for Hulu of a Buffy reboot sequel series is in final stages of being created. When Variety asked Hulu for comment on it, the channel declined. Sarah Michelle Gellar will not lead the show, but appear as Buffy in a recurring role and the show is untitled but will focus on an entirely new Slayer. It’s all so exciting!

If the show goes ahead, we know it will take place in the future of the Buffyverse after season seven and (maybe?) the comics, which are canon but less popular. At the end of season seven, Buffy and Willow used the power of the Slayer’s scythe to make every Potential Slayer in the world have the exact same power as Buffy and Faith. This means that the world Buffy is set in now has thousands of women who are fighting the forces of darkness, so presumably the show will be focussing on one of these and Buffy will be in it as a general.

Notably, it’s not set to have Joss Whedon involved at all.

The Buffy cast are teasing the reboot sequel on social media

Just before the story came out about the show potentially getting a reboot or sequel, Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a picture of her wearing the Buffy yummy sushi pyjamas. Any fan of the show knows they were worn when Buffy made a speech in series four and said iconically that the speech might have had more impact if she wasn’t saying it in the aforementioned PJs.

Like, she knows what she’s doing!

Emma Caulfield Ford

Emma Caulfield Ford, who is canonically dead as Anya in the show, has posted on Instagram a screenshot of the story saying “and it’s finally out” – which if you ask me tells me she knows something big is coming. I need an Anya resurrection for the reboot sequel show – and I’m sorry, it’s Buffy, weirder things have happened.

Michelle Trachtenberg

Dawn Summers herself cryptically posted a photo saying “Something Wicked this way comes” with some film emojis. I might be reaching but COULD she be filming for the show!? Or just going watching Wicked at the cinema? I choose to believe the former.
