Here’s what your go-to night out in Leeds really says about you
If you love Mischief you should definitely run for social sec
Now with assessment season almost over, that only means one thing, going out, something we’re all too familiar with in Leeds.
Whether you’re a fresher partying it up in Fruity on a Friday or a Master’s student at Belgrave, studying the edgy cocktail-holding crowd, there really is something for everyone in Leeds.
But, from Bobby’s to Beaverworks, everyone has a favourite Leeds night out that they’ll always crave more than others so we’re here to tell you what your go-to night out in Leeds says about you.
Bobby’s
To begin the week, some people prescribe going out as the best remedy to beat Monday blues and, to be honest, we couldn’t agree more.
If you’re a Bobby’s merchant you obviously love a throwback hit, and 90s music is your jam. You’re probably feral with a touch of wholesome – like a margarita, only you wouldn’t get it spicy.
The Library
If you’re on the more casual side and actually care about making it to your 9am practical then The Library is likely your go-to (the pub not Eddy B – we’re losing brain cells, not gaining them, remember).
You enjoy the cheap drinks, the DJ and the screening of some good ol’ football. It’s an overall good night. You might send a tipsy text to your situationship but your only real worries include being warm enough for the outdoor seating area and if you’ve got enough money for your next pint.
Oh, and you probably study some form of engineering or live at Henry Price.
Royal Park Pub
Most Read
If you’re a second year or older you will definitely have heard about or experienced the hype of Royal Park Pub (RPP). It’s a classic but it’s so been there done that.
You probably love a bargain, even if it means justifying spending 90 minutes queuing to get into the pub only to queue yet again to get a drink. I mean, what can I say? It’s a popular place.
Is this a reflection of your inability to break out of your comfort zone and try something new? Maybe. But hey – there’s a beer garden and you know that securing your favourite eight-seater table will make your night so it’s worth it, right?
Dvotion
If you’re known as a more radical party-goer then Dvotion will probably be calling your name. You likely don’t care for a conventional night out and with that, the usual Uni of Leeds crowd, and you’re pleased to find all sorts of mayhem.
You fit right in here because your ideal night out looks like embracing your inner wild child personality with lots of DnB pounding from the walls.
Drydock
Caught at Drydock? You’re likely a regular fresher of cheesy karaoke nights and cashing in on the ridiculously cheap student pint deals is your kind of fun.
Either you have a pretty cool collection of karaoke songs in your arsenal or you’re tone deaf and enjoy putting others through your drunken singing. Either way, a night to remember!
Mischief
Sports night, baby! Wednesdays are known for the night where all sports societies strip down to their most feral forms (and by forms we mean costumes or lack of costumes, *cough rugby cough*).
Michief merchants can be found drunkenly dancing at Warehouse at 3am so you’re probably a party animal who knows how to have a good time.
If you love sports nights, you definitely also love a gossip. We know you live for those morning debriefs.
Watch out, because this personality type usually equates to running for social sec for next year’s committee. It’s a given.
Hyde Park Pub
If you prefer a quieter Wednesday night munching on the Wing Wednesdays deal from Hyde Park Pub, you probably love a cheap bargain and turn your nose at the drunken cricket boys when you see them queuing at the bar.
You might be a tad on the boring side, but I bet you could beat any sports soc member looking to challenge you to a spicy wing competition.
Old Red Bus Station
If you plan your week around Old Red Bus, you enjoy dancing to the monotonous beat of “I’ve been a nasty girl, nasty”.
Your best friend on a night out isn’t Kathy from James Baillie but close! It begins with K, is three letters long, and its remnants can be found on the back of your key.
However, all you Old Red Bus stans may need to find another venue, as this iconic club has announced its closure. Please send me your thoughts and prayers.
Indie Thursdays
If the thought of spending Thursday (although probably more like Friday morning) at O2 in Leeds, sounds like your jam, you probably listen to old-man indie tunes and try not to think about how the only reason you like this genre is because you’re still not over the ex who showed it to you.
Okay, sure, I might be talking from experience there.
Fruity
It’s the end of the week, and if you’re tired of all the going out by this point you’re probably doing it right. But if you’re totally gearing for a Friday night out, you’re probably a certified party animal and Fruity is the night for you.
Coined “comfortable” and “convenient” on the LUU website, you’re nothing like that. Getting black out drunk and spending most of your time in the smoking area are your go-tos.
You probably also enjoy standing in a sauna of 300 people listening to white girl music. If you love Fruity, you either lived close by in first year, so it became your flat tradition or you go because you have nothing better to do on a Friday.
Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen
If you love a Belgrave night, you’re probably a little more chill than other clubbers in Leeds and that’s okay. You’re willing to spend on a drink here and there in exchange for a slightly classier night out. I get you.
Maybe you feel too old for Mischief or maybe conquering those Warehouse toilets are not for you anymore. Either way, you’re cool.
Beaverworks
If you’re a Beaverworks fan, you either love RnB or DnB – there’s no in between.
We can’t fault you really, except being willing enough to order that Uber to Beaverworks tells us everything we to know.
You must be a very tolerant and dedicated individual.
Headrow House
Let’s see, you go to Headrow on a Friday night for a couple drinks, a cig on the balcony and hit Call Lane after?
If you’re a guy, you definitely wear baggy jeans and an edgy belt, and if you’re a girl we can guarantee you’ve got rave sunglasses on your head and a cig in your hand at all times.
Headrow has a mix of events on so the crowd varies from night to night but, Friday night-goers, we think we’ve got you spot-on.
