Elon Musk responds after being slammed for ‘Nazi salute’ at Donald Trump’s inauguration

The video is being widely shared across the internet

Elon Musk has made his first official statement after earlier being accused of giving a “Nazi salute” during the celebrations of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

On Monday, Donald Trump was officially sworn into the White House as the 47th President of the United States, making this his second term in the big chair. The event saw celebrities you’ve never heard of – and the ones you wish you hadn’t – step out in glamorous gowns and tuxedos to celebrate the MAGA win amongst fellow red-hat-wearing fanatics.

Alongside other giant tech names like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, Tesla CEO Elon Musk supported his friend by giving arguably the worst speech of the year; stumbling over words, sharing crazy plans, and what many people have dubbed a Nazi salute.

“Thank you for making it happen. Thank you, my heart goes out to you,” he said before turning to the American flag and issuing the gesture not once, but twice.

Twitter has been enveloped in debate ever since, with some defending Elon and others calling for him to make an apology.

One person said:  “Trump admitting to voter fraud and Elon Musk doing a Nazi salute on stage… but nobody cares. People are willingly turning towards fascism.”

“Elon Musk doing the Nazi salute on stage in front cameras two seconds into Trump’s presidency because he knows they’ll be no repercussions because he’s basically bought the American government …just WOW,” another said.

Elon Musk seemingly responds to claims he did the Nazi salute

Anti-Defamation League, the antisemitism watchdog, issued a statement defending Elon Musk that described the gesture as “awkward” but not related to the fascist salute.

This angered US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who clapped back with: “Just to be clear, you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity. People can officially stop listening to you as any sort of reputable source of information now. You work for them. Thank you for making that crystal clear to all.”

Seeing her post, Elon responded with “‘just 100 per cent lost her marbles” on his platform Twitter – I’m still not calling it X.
