This tiny detail completely changes the meaning behind the roulette scene in Squid Game
If you needed further proof the recruiter is insane
Right, so we all know that the Russian roulette scene during episode one of Squid Game was genuinely one of the most nerve wracking moments in the series and really showed how much the recruiter loves all things violent.
Well, as it turns out there’s a tiny secret detail during the scene which proves the recruiter is even more psychotic than we thought, and it completely changes the whole meaning of the Squid Game scene.
The detail was first spotted by someone on Reddit, who pointed out that in the first round where there’s only one bullet in the chamber, it’s actually a dummy bullet and would never have gone off. You can tell the bullet is a dummy one as there’s a hole in the middle of the bullet caused by the primer having already been hit by the firing pin.
Then, in the second round during the first Squid Game episode, the recruiter loads five bullets into the chamber, telling them they now have a five in six chance of dying. However, he actually adds three more dummy bullets and one real bullet, meaning they only have a one in six chance of getting shot, despite what he’s told them.
Whilst it might seem that this was just a genuine safety thing for filming where fake bullets would be used, it seems as though the inclusion of a bullet where the primer hadn’t been hit means this was an actual detail thought of and included in the scene by the producers. If all the bullets were fake for safety purposes then one real looking one wouldn’t have made the cut.

Obviously, all the bullets used would have been fake in real life, but I think we can presume they made one of the fakes look real in order to help show how insane the recruiter really is. Just in case you hadn’t got it by this moment in time…
The fact the recruiter deliberately put fake bullets into the chamber but told them their odds were still high only goes to show how much he wanted to prolong their suffering and make them as fearful as possible, despite there being no risk at all in the first round. In short, he’s even more psychotic than we first thought!
