The shocking real reason behind Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott’s unexpected split

Well, 2025 has certainly got off to a wild start with the year already allegedly claiming a devastating split between Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott. I truly thought these two were here for the long haul and whilst everything seemed peachy between them there were some signs all was not well between them.

On New Year’s Day, MailOnline reported that Zara McDermott and Sam Thompson had decided to split and go their separate ways after almost five years together.

An insider claimed: “Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.

“But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025.”

However, it seems like the real reason for their breakup is as a result of Zara previously cheating on Sam in 2019. The moment was dramatically shown during Made in Chelsea, with Zara telling Jamie and Habbs: “When it happened, I genuinely thought that me and Sam were going to break up inevitably. I just thought we were hanging on by a tiny thread and we’re going to break up.”

Zara and Sam then had an emotional heart to heart on a bench which led to the now iconic meme of Zara telling Sam: “Yes you caaaan.” It’s truly burned into my memory. Whilst they briefly split up following the revelation, they soon rekindled their relationship but it seems they never recovered from her infidelity.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Zara and Sam’s relationship just never had felt like it was heading for the long haul. They never really recovered from Zara’s cheating, most couples would have struggled lasting for as long as they did afterwards.

“Zara had some big making up to do, especially with Louise, she really wasn’t happy when Sam took her back. But she managed to make it work and they had some great times together again, but it just felt like it was never going to be truly serious.”
