MAFS UK star Sacha forced to defend holding a funeral for her cat following harsh backlash
Her cat Diego featured on MAFS but unexpectedly passed away in December
MAFS UK 2024 star Sacha has been forced to defend herself for holding a funeral for her cat Diego after he sadly passed away earlier in December.
Sacha’s cats were a massive part of her life and were featured on MAFS UK 2024, with Diego even having his own Instagram account to document his weight loss journey.
However, after a period of illness, Diego sadly passed away in Sacha’s arms at 3 am on 11th December, with Sacha explaining what happened in a tribute to him on Instagram.
She wrote: “At 3 am this morning I lost the best thing that ever happened to me. He was due in for scans and tests today as he’s been ill for a while and tried various different meds but now I will never fully know why he passed.
“Yesterday they just put him on fluids then at 1 am I heard him scream out in agony. I took him to the emergency vet but there wasn’t much they could do so I brought him home and he took his final breath in my arms.
“You once saved my life, Diego, I’m so sorry I couldn’t save yours. I really thought I was doing all I could. But maybe I should have pushed for your scans sooner.
“And I definitely shouldn’t have left you for those couple of days I was away. I just thought you’d be fine at your nanny and grandad’s and the vet’s didn’t seem too concerned. I feel like it’s all my fault. You’d just started your little weight loss journey too when all this started to happen.”

Following Diego’s passing Sacha decided to hold a funeral for him to celebrate his life, with the event taking place a couple of days ago. The service included memorial speeches, singing and cupcakes with pictures of Diego on them, alongside a special memory book for people to write in.
However, a lot of the comments left under her post about the funeral expressed their confusion over the funeral, with one person writing: “I love my cat, but this is crazy behaviour!” Another added: “Pets are family, yeah, but this just screams attention seeking to me!!”
Another commenter supported Sacha in her decision, writing: “Not sure why it bothers other people what she wants to do for her cat. Some people consider animals family. Live and let live.”
MAFS UK 2024 alumni Sacha responded to the controversial comments and agreed with the previous commenter, responding: “Exactly. How I choose to grieve is my business. It’s not for everyone but it felt important to me.”
