Finally, a survey that matters: Cambridge rated the most festive city in the UK
A city that can do both – clever AND Christmassy
Cambridge may be synonymous with crazy workloads, but it is a beautiful city. So obviously it has the upper hand when it comes to Christmas: Those ancient college grounds were made for trees, lights and garlands. This makes it no surprise that Cambridge has been rated the most festive city in the UK based on six different factors, scoring 8.75 out of 10.
The study conducted by Casinotop 3 has determined that Cambridge is the best city to visit if you love Christmas, and here’s why.
The online retailer considered the following factors: The number of Christmas Carol and Visit Santa events throughout the month of December per city/town, the percentage difference between lights in October compared to December, the likelihood of snowfall and overall internet engagement with each city’s Christmas related hashtags.
The cobblestoned streets of Cambridge come to life in December, with festive lights increasing its overall brightness by 21 per cent. With a full day of snowfall also predicted in December, it’s no surprise this city takes the Christmas crown.
Cambridge also boasts over 65 Christmas carol events per 10,000 people to enjoy throughout the month, as well as an impressive 57 opportunities to meet Santa.
Old rivals Oxford come in a close second place with a score of 8.66 out of 10, followed by Winchester, Worcester, Gloucester, Durham, Norwich, and finally at number 10, Cardiff.
Ultimately, if you want to live out your classic Christmas rom-com dreams, or feel like you’re in A Christmas Carol, Cambridge is the destination for you.
