A complete guide to the best post-night out scran in Leeds

Crispy is the saving grace we didn’t know we needed

It is an undeniable truth that the highlight of a silly night out is the guilt-free, fried perfection that is post-club grub. The seductive cheese pull of a greasy pizza, chunky fries drowning in creamy sauces or the first bite into that decadent burger is tempting enough to end any night early, no matter how good the music.

In Leeds we are spoilt for choice with the array of indulgent late-night scran available so this is the ultimate guide to the best after-dark delicacies reviewed for you, so that no time is wasted from leaving the dance floor to the first chomp.

Pitza Cano

First on the list we have Pitza Cano. Some may say a square shaped pizza is controversial, but don’t knock it ’till you try it.

Its location by Brudenell Social Club and Royal Park Pub makes it perfect for a post-pub snack. Also, you can’t say you have truly lived until you’ve enjoyed a Pitza Cano special garlic bread. No words needed; this irresistible beauty speaks for itself.

Flames

Next up is Flames, a throwback first year classic, conveniently located on the way home from town and my personal favourite treat after singing my heart out at Dry Dock Karaoke Tuesday.

An extensive burger selection, friendly staff patiently putting up with stupefied drunken banter and very reasonably priced scran (burgers start at £3.90), all accumulate to make Flames a very solid and dependable option.

24/7 Sainsbury’s

This list would not be complete without 24/7 Saino’s getting a special mention. Located in the heart of Hyde Park, 24/7 Saino’s is an iconic element of this place we call home. It has aggressively fuelled my late-night sweet treat addiction but Hyde Park would not be the same without it.

The knowledge of having any snack you fancy available at any hour is very comforting. Saino’s- you may rinse all my money, but we are forever grateful for how convenient you are.

Drunken DIY food

Of course, an appreciation must be given to those weird and wonderful drunken creations made at home, using the most rogue and forgotten ingredients lurking at the back of the cupboards or the depths of the freezer.

A carb of any form makes up the base, loaded with whatever you can find in the kitchen; bits of smoky bacon, mountains of cheese, crisps for crunch and combinations of mystery condiments, tossed into the oven until it all melts together.

Anything tastes Michelin Star after a drink or ten.

Crispy

Situated just before pub ten on the Otley Run and just before things start to go really south, we have Crispy, the saving grace we didn’t know we needed.

Notoriously going viral on TikTok in 2021 after videos were posted of customers raving to Sean Paul, with blaring music and flashing lights, Crispy is much more than just a fish and chip shop.

Popina’s

Last but certainly not least we have Popina’s, located in Hyde Park. This one is slightly different, as rather than a sloppy drunken endeavour, it is a hungover morning outing. As you brave the world with a piercing headache, your aching body begging you to stay cocooned in bed but your growling stomach fighting back, Popina’s will not disappoint.

What better way to erase the blurry memories of last night’s antics than a trusty Full English Breakfast. With banging prices (their Full English variations starting at £5.95), Popina’s offers just that.
