Inside I’m A Celeb’s Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s life when they had to move to America

She absolutely hated it and said she ‘cried every night’

On last night’s I’m A Celeb, Coleen Rooney spoke about the time her and Wayne met Donald Trump in America. The two got an invite to the White House because Trump was paying Wayne to coach his son Barron in playing football. The fact that the Rooney family lived in America for a bit gets kind of forgotten about – mostly because Coleen and Wayne are so Scouse that the thought of them living in the US is so jarring – but since Coleen spoke about it in the I’m A Celeb jungle, here’s what life was like for them in America.

Wait, why did they move to America?

The Rooneys up and shifted across the pond because Wayne Rooney joined the Washington based soccer team DC United in 2018. At the time, there was some speculation that Wayne would make the move alone – but Coleen cleared up the rumours in a post on Twitter saying “Wishing our Daddy and my Wayne all the luck, happiness and success in America!!! It’s a move we are going to do as a family.”

A lot of Coleen’s time there was spent sightseeing. The family visited most of the big landmarks around DC, and also in Philadelphia.

But we actually all got most of the insight from how Coleen felt about living in America during the Wagatha Christie trial – which has been brought up also on I’m A Celeb. Because Coleen and Rebekah Vardy’s texts had to be analysed in the case, during the time they were still friends Rebekah reached out to Coleen to ask how she was settling into things. Coleen confessed she was hating living in Maryland and cried every night. She also said she had no idea about homesickness til she was so far from her family.

Coleen text Vardy saying “”Hiya, hope you’r all well. We’re ok thanks it’s tough being on your own though.

“Washington isn’t the best….nice to visit but different to live. Not loads for the kids to do, mostly park, hardly any soft plays and things like that. It’s quite behind the UK, which I never would have thought. But we will get used to it (I hope).

“Wayne is loving it, and the kids are fine, settled into school straight away. So really happy they are fine. Thanks for the message love xx.”

The Trump saga

Coleen Rooney opened up last night on I’m A Celeb about the time the family were living in America and met Donald Trump at the White House.

Coleen explained on the show “When we lived in America, we got invited to the White House for Christmas and we went to meet Donald Trump. So we walked in and we got to get like, you know, like the official photograph taken in front of the Christmas tree and stuff. So Donald Trump said to his son: ‘See I told ya, all the soccer players get the good looking girls.’ I mean well, I told my mum and my mum was like: ‘Dirty b*stard!’. He wanted Wayne to go over to teach his son, like, play football with his son.”

Too queen-like for calling Trump a dirty bastard, honestly.
