Rising Leeds student TikToker reveals insanely cheap ways to eat well on student budget

She has all the hacks to meals on a budget

Leeds-based business management student, Amy, has dedicated her TikTok account, @foodbyamy0, to sharing delicious and budget-friendly student meals.

Her success has grown rapidly, now with a following of over 12k and we understand why- her recipes are perfect to cut down on the growing costs of living.

Amy started influencing with her student meal prepping in June and since has committed her account to uploading regular tasty and cheap meals, suitable for those struggling to always think up exciting dinner ideas and buy all the right things in the supermarket.

Living close to an Aldi has been convenient to pick up less pricey ingredients for Amy as she explains its products are “super affordable to stick to a student budget”. It is evidently a promising choice for all uni students to venture to for their own weekly hauls.

However, Amy is also keen to provide balance in her life when buying goods, which is why she holds high praise for Sainsbury’s. She includes a mix of both shops in her budget, believing Headingley’s star store contains the best quality options which remain fresh longest in the fridge.

Amy told The Leeds Tab how cooking has become a “passion of hers” as it provides an escape for her away from her studies. (Definitely something we could all do with, with exam season quickly approaching.)

Starting off as a hobby for baking back home, Amy has turned to (arguably the impossible task) of cooking up a storm of fantastic meals in a uni kitchen and, even without any cooking experience, we can all agree they look top-notch.

Her page has loads of amazing options, ranging from stuffed pittas for lunch (only 62p per portion) to a variety of yummy dinner ideas which are inspired simply by what Amy “feels like eating at the time”.

Whether you’re a lover of hearty food like mac and cheese, spaghetti meatballs and chicken and bacon pie, or maybe something a bit more healthy and bougie like a sweet potato feta salad, Amy has the affordable version for you all available in her digital cookbook.

I mean pigs ‘n’ blankets mac & cheese? Amy is truly doing God’s work.

Her favourite dishes include anything with pasta (relatable), and the new, up and coming trend of the ‘fakeaway’ (making your favourite takeaway classics at home) and it’s absolutely clear to see why.

Gaining “inspo from Pinterest and TikTok”, Amy makes her aesthetic creations available to all us students in need, and uploads step-by-step videos of how to make all of her dishes.

So instead of buying your usual random pack of chicken and pot of pesto – why not drop Amy a follow and try something new?

You never know, you may even come across a new favourite which won’t break the bank.
