Everything you need to know about the University of Lincoln’s Climate Action Week 2024
The festival will be running for its fourth year between 18th and 24th November
The Climate Action Festival is back for another year. Over the course of a week, time is dedicated to raising awareness on how to take positive climate action in the community and beyond. This year’s themes are Climate Education, Nature Positive, and Community. For more information, visit UoL Estates page.
With so many events happening across the week, here is a complete list of ways you can get involved:
All Week
Go visit the Nature Positive Lincoln Exhibition in the Peter de Wint Building. Open to everyone between 9am and 5pm, the exhibition will feature art, photography, and sculptures made by staff, students and alumni of the University of Lincoln, as well as Lincolnshire residents.
The Lincoln Arts Centre is also hosting a Community Clothes Swap in its café between 8:30am and 6pm. Here you have the chance to donate clothes you no longer want, and pick up a new outfit.
Lincoln Arts Centre will be collecting donations from Friday 15th November. Staff members ask that any donations are brought to the Box Office.
Additionally, EarthLincs and Extinction Rebellion are hosting their Climate Action Banner Exhibition in the Lincoln Medical School Atrium between 8:30am and 6pm.
Monday
Monday sees a guided walk with Alex from the university’s sustainability team. They will be joined by University of Lincoln alumna and Mycologist, Rosie Foxley-Wood. People will have chance to learn about local fungi and how to safely identify them.
This event is now fully booked, but there is a waiting list.
At 12:30pm, there will be a guided tree walk at Riseholme Park Campus. There is no need to book for this event, just meet outside the main entrance of Riseholme’s Lawress Hall at 12:30pm.

In the afternoon, you can learn how to figure out your carbon footprint at the Bitesize Carbon Literacy Training Taster, taking place between 2pm and 3:30pm in MB2306.
For the more artistically inclined, the UoL Arts and Crafts Society will be hosting a free craft event using recycled materials. You can find them in the LAC café between 6pm and 8pm.
Tuesday
Sponsored by the Lincoln Centre for Ecological Justice, Tuesday will have a research showcase session. Climate Action & Ecological Justice in Diverse Contexts: A research and scholarship showcase will be taking place between 10am and 1pm in the Peter de Wint building.
A Beginner’s Guide to Net Zero: Energy and Decarbonisation in Lincolnshire and Humberside will be held on Teams between 1pm and 2pm.
Also on Tuesday is the Wildlife Photography Workshop, run by University of Lincoln student Michael Teague. Meet outside the Ross Lucas Medical Sciences Building at 2pm.

In the evening, you can join Wild Lincolnshire – A panel talk. The event provides the opportunity to hear about rewilding projects in Lincolnshire, and have any questions answered. Arrival from 5pm. The panel starts at 6pm in the Peter de Wint building.
The Horse and Groom Pub on Carholme Road will be hosting People Planet Pint – Informal Networking between 6pm and 8pm.
Wednesday
Between 12pm and 3pm, the Students’ Union will be hosting a Green Goodies and Herb Garden Pop Up. This sustainability themed event will be giving out eco-friendly handouts and offering students the chance to plant their own herbs. Find them outside the Students’ Union.
BYOM to the University of Lincoln’s Library Freezone between 12pm and 2pm to join the Sustainability Café. There will be the opportunity to meet the sustainability team and take part in some crafts.
Join Professor Libby John, the Dean of Sustainability at UoL for a workshop about Using UN Sustainable Development Goals in Alfred Tennyson Building. This event is aimed at staff, though students are also welcome between 1pm and 3pm.
For a bit of a mid-week wind down, why not head to Southside, Lincoln to catch a screening of Silent Running. This environmental-themed science fiction film starts at 6:45pm.
And for those wanting to get ahead on the Christmas Shopping, check out the Eco Night Market. Between 6pm and 9pm in the LAC Café, the market is a great way to support local businesses whilst also shopping sustainability.
Thursday
Thursday arrives with the opportunity to attend an Introduction to wildlife surveying workshop with Alex Foxley-Wood and University of Lincoln student Grace Kidman. Starting at 8:30am at Riseholme Park Campus, the workshop provides the opportunity to learn basic wildlife surveying techniques and how you can get involved in citizen science for nature.
Open for students only is the Feel Good Thoughtful Thursdays: Fabric Painting between 4:30pm and 6pm in the Swan. Bring any old clothes to paint them into something new. Paint and brushes will be provided.
Keeping in theme with painting is the Pigment Paint Workshop in the Peter de Wint building between 2pm and 4pm. This free workshop will focus on using natural pigments to create art.
Also on Thursday is the book launch, exhibition and talk about the Seeing Change project. You can find it at 5pm in the Stephen Langton Foyer and the ground floor lecture feature.
Friday
Spend the morning helping get the community Kitchen Garden ready for winter. Starting at 10:30am on the Brayford Campus, adjacent to the sports centre.

As a new partner of the festival, Lincoln Cathedral is hosting a Bring and Share Lunch at the Table for the Nation event. Bring some food to share around the 5,000 year old oak Table for the Nation at 12pm. University of Lincoln students, bring your student ID for free entry.
Saturday
To complete Climate Action Week, join the Big City Litterpick. The UoL Litter Picking Society will be meeting outside the Engine Shed at 1pm for anyone wanting to get involved.
