All the Pretty Little Liars couples ranked, from endgame to downright bizarre

If there is one show that keeps me up at night, it’s Pretty Little Liars. I could spend hours analysing every single inch of this stupid series from about seven different angles. I have rewatched it more times than I can count on both hands and have watched every deep dive possible on YouTube.

This show was majorly gripped by all the couples and various romances flitting about throughout. Some were kind of crazy, and not in the books at all. It seemed at times that Marlene King, the show’s executive producer, went off the rails a little bit not just with who -A could be, but with what characters she paired together in the show.

I think all super fans can agree the final two seasons were rather diabolical and completely off the mark, without spoiling to much to viewers who haven’t completed the show. There were some random ops, such as the new love interests introduced in season 6B after the time jump. I won’t include them in this ranking, as none were endgame and don’t stand a chance against all the OG ships.

10. Melissa and Ian

Let’s be honest, these two deserved one another. Until Melissa had her redemption arc, she was just as evil as the original -A. Ian Thomas was Peter Hasting’s dream son-in-law. Thank god their wedding never happened.

It’s giving, “you know you wanna kiss me.” The couple born of the timeless kissing rock. It’s crazy that when that scene was filmed, Sascha Pieterse was just 12 years old. In reality, it was a 12-year-old trying to seduce a guy in his 20s is insane. All for television though. Long live the kissing rock.

8. Emily and Maya

Anyone Emily has ever been with, I personally have not shipped her with – especially Maya. Maya and her death is still just a huge black plot hole in the show, and one that still gives me shivers. Even though Maya helped Emily come out, Maya was just bad for Emily. Are we not forgetting that girl couldn’t go a day without smoking a blunt?

7. Emily and Paige

Again, another partner for Emily completely unfitting and undeserving of her love. Paige was so toxic and gross for Emily. In my opinion, she at times fitted her title of “pig skin” Alison gave her with her behaviour. Thank god these two never ended up together. The image of Paige dressed up as a sexy Father Christmas with all the other PLL boyfriend’s is an image forever in my mind. It was cute, kinda.

6. Spencer and Caleb

These two do actually fit together and deserved the endless amount of shipping they received online. Their friendship on the show was one to admire, their scheming and bonding over hacking software’s and nerdy little jokes. It was a shock to the system when these two became romantic. At ComicCon, Sascha Pieterse recalls the scene between Spencer, Caleb and Hanna which broke her heart – when they called off their romance and were crying against the doors.

5. Byron and Ella

It wouldn’t be a Pretty Little Liars couple ranking without these two OGs. I could have killed for Ella Montgomery in season one. My heart broke for her – and Byron was a little snake. His affair was an important storyline, but could have saved Ella some divorce fees. When these two remarried, it did seem like a bit of Rosewood was a bit sane again.

4. Alison and Emily (Emison)

It seemed like a perfect full circle for these two to end up together. The way they ended up with twin girls is a bit of a skewed storyline and I’m not sure how they would have explained this to their children when they had grown up, but I suppose matches the madness of it all. Do I think there is chemistry between these two? Not really, but it tied up the series well.

3. Aria and Ezra (Ezria)

A problematic endgame couple. In season one, they were 15 and 24, and her was her teacher. It’s all a bit messed up really – but they are two artistic golden retrievers who pair well together in the end. I suppose you could call these two the original situationship. I need someone on TikTok to make an edit of these two using Taylor Swift’s Illicit Affairs. That song was written for them.

2. Spencer and Toby (Spoby)

These two were made for each other: Golden retriever and black cat dynamic personified. Their chemistry is just *chefs kiss, on and off screen. When he became a cop to watch and protect the girls from -A from the inside, that was the ultimate declaration of love. These two deserved to be endgame.

1. Hanna and Caleb (Haleb)

I have to put Haleb first. As a couple, they delivered some of the best scenes of the show. “I was going to kill you!” – “What, with a pink furry lamp – Hanna?” Caleb would die for Hanna, no doubt. He was kind of the fifth liar, before Alison returned, defending the girls against Jenna. I declare him and Hanna as the best Pretty Little Liars couple in this ranking. Hanna and Caleb were the best friends to lover archetype.

Now time to rewatch the series for what will most likely be the 11th time.
