Cambridge University responds to racist incident on Sidgwick Site
The university has stepped up its security presence on the campus
Police are investigating after University of Cambridge students were subjected to “racist remarks” on campus.
Last month, a group of students of colour were verbally abused by a passer-by on Sidgwick Site, near to the university’s Alison Richards Building.
The department of history at the University of Cambridge has since informed students about the incident, adding that “nobody should have to face abuse of this nature”.
In an email sent to students, the history faculty detailed the incident, which occurred on Monday 21st October.
It explained how the incident left students feeling “deeply distressed”, adding that “nobody should have to face abuse of this nature”.
The email read: “Nobody should have to face abuse of this nature and everybody who works and studies on the Sidgwick Site will be appalled at this incident.
“Please be assured that the university security team will be stepping up their presence on the site to prevent any repetition.”
The history faculty also added that it is “doing everything it can” to support the students affected by the incident.
In response to the incident, the university security team “will be stepping up their presence on the site”.
The police have also been informed and are investigating the incident.
The history faculty and Cambridge University have both been approached for comment.
