Inside the intense Love Is Blind control room where producers watch every second of the cast

Pictures of the cast are pinned up and producers have designated cast members to monitor

I don’t know how I thought Love Is Blind worked, but it turns out during the pod phase of the show there is an entire control room filled with producers, who watch absolutely everything that’s going on.

As part of a wider look into the makings of our favourite chaotic dating show, Vulture spent some time in the Love Is Blind control room, and it sounds absolutely wild. From what the producers get up to whilst watching behind the scenes, to the secrets of how Nick and Vanessa Lachey look so polished in front of camera, a whole load of secrets have been spilled.

The Love Is Blind control room is made up of tables of monitors, and there are pictures of the cast on the walls

Right, so according to Vulture, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that we don’t see during Love Is Blind. The piece describes a “large room” that is situated “off to one side of the show’s enormous soundstage” as being the main central hub for producers, who watch every second of the drama.

The room is said to have several rows of tables, each with individual screens and monitors, with audio cords taped across the floor. There is also a “large screen in the corner displaying the day’s production schedule” which looks like a colour-coded grid, indicating who from the cast is dating who, and when their date time slot are on the given day. Not me just thinking they could rock up to a pod whenever they wanted – it’s an operation!

In very police investigation room style, there is also a whiteboard in the room, which has photos of the cast on it, and these pictures will be moved around and connected up, to indicate who is dating who and if there are any love triangles or overlaps.

The producers will sit at the monitors and watch over every single date, and there are also monitors for cameras overseeing the women’s and the men’s living lounges, and two interview rooms. The producers are each assigned cast members to watch over, with Vulture describing the room as like a “firehouse of gossip” looking over 10 simultaneous pod dates at any given time.

Shock! The Lacheys have cue cards and makes speeches to an empty room

During the time overseeing the pods, Vulture noted that Nick and Vanessa Lachey were there, delivering their opening lines for the seventh season, from the lounges the cast hang out in. What we don’t get the impression of though is that these speeches are made to an empty lounge, with cue cards propped on each chair.

Most Love Is Blind cast members are edited out of the show completely

The pods are filmed over the course of 10 days, which means most of the footage never makes it to the show. Vulture reported “little” of what they saw happening whilst watching from the Love Is Blind control room actually made it into the final edit.

On top of this, many cast members who don’t find a connection will go home within the first few days, and get edited out of the final show completely.
