Now term has started, here’s our ultimate Lancaster Michaelmas term bucket list

We all need a break from our laptop screens x

We’re firmly into our timetables, the queue for Greggs is reaching halfway across Alexandra Square and Bowland North is full of confused first years.

For some terrified third years, dissertations are looming, but others are still able to sit back, relax, and experience Lancaster in all of its glory.

For those of you who aren’t already bogged down by readings, we’ve compiled the complete and total Lancaster bucket list for this term, so you know how to spend those gloriously empty Sundays – other than sitting and watching the Circuit washing machines spin.

Climb up to Williamson Park

Visible from the motorway, it’s synonymous with Lancaster at this point. You can pay £4.50 if you’re feeling flush and go around the butterfly house and miniature zoo, though, of course, if you time it right, you could just play in the kids’ park instead.

It’s worth the trek up the hill, we promise.

Go to Morecambe and eat ice cream

Got a bus pass? Go for free! Not got a bus pass? Go on a Sunday and pay £1 each way!

Morecambe may be wet and wild this time of year, but it’s also a lovely way to blow away the hangover cobwebs, and is also home to a Toby Carvery, a bowling alley, and a plethora of bookshops (plus an ice cream parlour).

Just don’t let the seagulls steal your chips.

Get a takeaway from Wok Inn

If you’re on campus and haven’t tried this staple yet, what are you doing?

Tucked away next to Sultans (oh kings of our hearts) and often overlooked, Wok Inn serve the best pad thai you’re going to find in the city.

We haven’t got time to wax lyrically about their spring rolls, we’d be here for a year.

Have a night out at Light Up Lancaster

Taking place in the city from the 7th-9th November, Light Up Lancaster is a festival of arts, music and lights!

There’s a huge array of performances, displays and shows to see throughout the darkened city, some by award winning and acclaimed companies and artists, all totally free. This is a great idea for a flat night out or a date night, or even a solo trip!

Go for a board games night at Tipple

A slightly more expensive suggestion, perhaps, but when your local cocktail bar also has board games, a fab selection of mocktails for those of you who don’t drink, and a banging music selection, it’s hard to not go.

I mean, tipsy Cards Against Humanity? Immediate yes.

Try the food at the Herbarium

Need a truly excellent vegan meal with impeccable vibes? The Herbarium has you covered.

Go ice skating in Dalton Square

Christmas in Lancaster is unparalleled, and we all know it’s kicking off when Dalton Square gets turned into an ice rink for a month of the year. Every society under the sun seems to go, but why not go with your friends and laugh when they fall over?

Get the train to the Lake District (before it gets too cold!)

We’re a forty minute train away from the Lakes, and if you’re a Swiftie who wants to see where inspired the Folklore album, where the romantic poets lived or if you just really want a good hike, it’s cheap, accessible and a really fun day out.

It might not be the weather for wild swimming, but it’s definitely pub lunch weather!

Complete the full charity shop marathon haul

The top of the high street features a veritable marathon of charity shops. If you can get through them all in one afternoon, thoroughly, then you have accomplished something few Lancaster students ever manage.
