University of Exeter students will be appearing on this season of the BBC’s quiz programme, University Challenge later this month.

The show is a British programme that follows a tournament format with 28 teams of four from a range of universities across the UK. These teams go head-to-head with one another and answer intellectual questions until all teams are eliminated and one team is crowned.

The 31st season of the show will air on Monday 23rd September at 8.30PM on BBC2. This will be the university’s first-round match.

The University of Exeter’s team will comprise of both undergraduates and postgraduates from the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. Following an extensive recruitment process, the University of Exeter’s team was created by Exeter’s Student’s Guild.

From this, the programme-makers asked the team to audition for the show and were then chosen to be one of the 28 universities featured in the University Challenge.

Martin Newman, a PhD candidate in history, is the captain. The team is as follows: undergraduates Lucy Carr (art history and visual culture and classical studies), and Elliott Mouelhi (ancient history and archaeology), as well as postgraduates Ryker Moorcroft  (natural sciences), and Benjamin Roth  (classics and ancient history) as the reserve.
