All the easter eggs in The Umbrella Academy season 4 that you definitely didn’t see
I actually lost count of the cameos in the park scene
The Umbrella Academy’s final season has taken Netflix by storm this week, and the show captivated its audience one last time. We got to see our favourite siblings save the planet from apocalypse in a final farewell. However, fans have noticed a LOT of easter eggs from The Umbrella Academy’s last hurrah, and many of them are super intentional from the show runner Steve Blackman, who wanted the show to be filled with loads of fun references to previous seasons. Here’s a list of The Umbrella Academy easter eggs you definitely missed on your first watch.
There are Jennifer references EVERYWHERE
If you went through this season trying to pick out any references or easter eggs to Jennifer, you would find a fair few. If you went through the entire show, you’d realise just how many there are. Jennifer and Ben are intertwined in every timeline, so there’s references to them in every season throughout the series, but these are only really explained in season four. Show runner Steve Blackman told fans that: “The Jennifer incident is a huge part if the graphic novel. It’s a story that basically defines Ben’s death. So it was very important that we tell that story, and I knew that I was going to tell it by the end of the season. So I wanted to pepper in through the seasons moments where the audience may or may not notice that they’re seeing references to Jennifer.”

She can actually be found in every season in pictures on the wall, that say “Jennifer” underneath. In season two, you can spot them in Ben’s room. You can never quite make out her face, just like Ben’s drawings in season three: He can’t quite figure out how the drawings should look. When he finally meets her in season four, it’s like they were destined to meet. She’s everywhere yet nowhere in the academy.
Every season actually features original drawings by Gabriel Bá, the original comic series illustrator
The original illustrator of the comic series, Gabriel Bá, was not forgotten in the screen adaptation of his amazing drawings. He was actually very involved in a lot of the set design, and was asked to design fake comic books, toys and merchandise for the show. He also designed Pogo’s tattoo from season three and the Mothers of Agony patches on their bike jackets. In season four, his drawings can be spotted around the season, most noticeably his sketch in his cameo in the final park scene. When asked about the experience, he said: “I enjoy just being a part of it as little as that may be, it’s fun for me.”
Viktor tries to save Ben in the season four finale, which parallels when Ben sacrificed himself for Viktor in the season two finale
Cast your minds back to season two of The Umbrella Academy: Ben saves Viktor, but in the season four finale, Viktor tries to repay the debt in a touching reverse easter egg. Steve Blackman said this was a very deliberate choice: “In the season two finale, Ben saves Viktor and we wanted to pay that off again in season four and have Viktor saving Ben. We wanted to come full circle. We found these two characters were in a way both outliers in the family, and it felt right that in this alternate timeline that one would save the other.” This sweet parallel comes after the season two finale when Ben saved Viktor in the FBI office.
Gene and Jean’s objects from previous timelines are all little easter eggs
Gene and Jean are some rogue characters we meet in the show’s final season, and we learn that they’re the founders of The Keepers. To back up their theory that they’re living in the wrong timeline, they have an entire barn full of objects they’ve collected from other timeline’s they’ve been in. Blackman said “We wanted to find a collection of things that the fans would easily recognise, so we actually picked things from all four seasons.” You may recognise a couple of these objects from the farmhouse in season two, Oblivion Hotel in season three and all over in season four.
The Minerva, an aircraft from the comics, is in a season four flashback
Only hardcore comic fans will recognise the iconic Minvera, an aircraft that Reginald Hargreeves used to collect the children after they were born. Blackman has said that “The Minerva is a much beloved flying machine that is from the graphic novel that the fans really love, so it was important for us to see it a few times during the show.” We finally got to see the cool invention, flown by Pogo, everybody’s favourite chimpanzee.
The marking on the book from the subway
The book that Five finds on the subway had an intriguing marking on the cover, but it isn’t one we haven’t seen before. In season one, it was spotted on the Meritech Prosthetics building. It’s actually an old alchemy symbol which plays with matter and how it’s changed – which is very Umbrella Academy-esque.
Season four’s finale episode had so many cameos from previous cast members
There are an INSANE amount of cameos in this final park scene, which is actually a really lovely way of closing off the series and definitely my favourite of The Umbrella Academy easter eggs. We first see Allison’s daughter Claire, Lila and Diego’s family, which means they all survived. Then the camera pans to the Swedes from seaon two, Hazel and Agnes, Grace pushing a stroller, and the Handler. Also spotted is Gabriel Bá drawing. And I don’t know if she counts, but Dolores makes a cameo too. It depends who you ask on that one.
Allison calling Viktor ‘El’ was improvised
In the Brellies’s final scene, Viktor checks to see if Allison feels strong enough to use her powers for the last time. In response, she says “Yeah, thanks El,” which is a sweet reference to actor Elliot Page, instead of his character’s name, Viktor. Blackman let us know it was an unscripted moment: “That was Emmy Raver-Lampman just improvising. It wasn’t scripted, but I thought it was lovely.”
