Inside the nasty divorce of Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose as they finally reach a settlement

After seven months of marriage and three months of messy settlement agreement, it has not been confirmed Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose have reached the conclusion of the process. Billy Ray filed for divorce from Firerose, with Cyrus claiming irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct. Last month, leaked audio went viral which saw Cyrus berating her and making comments about his ex wife Tish and their daughter, Miley.

In a statement released to PEOPLE by Billy Ray Cyrus’ attorneys, the legal team confirmed Cyrus and Firerose reached their divorce agreement on Friday 2nd August.

“This past Friday the parties reached a settlement agreement at mediation to dissolve their 7-month marriage, and the Court declared the parties divorced this morning,” said Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo & Garrett. “Mr. Cyrus is relieved to put this nightmare behind him.”

It was also noted that “a couple of weeks ago, prior to mediation, Ms. Hodges legally changed her last name from ‘Hodges’ to ‘Cyrus,'” which Cyrus believes “validates his assertion that his ex-wife’s sole impetus for marrying him was to obtain his last name.

Billy Ray Cyrus said in a further statement to PEOPLE “Giving thanks today to breathe a sigh of relief.” He also said it’s unfortunate that the relationship ended up like this.

In the wake of the claims from Billy Ray that Firerose changed her name to Cyrus because she was after having his surname, an insider close to her alleges to PEOPLE that she actually changed it soon after they wed. Firerose also apparently is walking away with nothing in the marriage settlement, because she did not want to take it to the court amid what she allegedly calls a “smear campaign” from Cyrus’ team against her.

“If this went to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided a significant amount of evidence to prove he fabricated a narrative that would benefit his public image,” they said. “There is no doubt she would have been awarded the divorce, but it was much more important to her that this continuous smear campaign end.”

In the leaked viral audio clips that circulated last month amidst the divorce proceedings, Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose could be heard arguing. Cyrus called her a “f*cking selfish bi*ch”, told her to “Shut the f*ck up”whilst Firerose can be heard asking him to stop shouting at her.
