TikTok’s angrily debating whether you should order fajitas at someone’s birthday and it’s chaos
‘I think it’s the most disrespectful thing you could possibly do’
I need to come out right now and declare that I love ordering fajitas if I am out for food. Love it. I love the way it causes table chaos as your one man tapas gets put down. Big sizzler, plate of wraps, all your salsas, guacs and creams. And cheese. Just bedlam, and even though some think it’s a crap order because we all love whipping up a load of fajitas for a midweek tea from time to time – it hits different in a restaurant. But is all fair in love and fajitas? TikTok thinks no – because there’s a big debate right now about whether you should order fajitas when it’s someone’s birthday or if there’s actually an unspoken rule that this is a NO GO AREA. And if you do it, you’re actually deeply rude and attention seeking. Let’s fight.
@_cest_la_vie_._ ON MY BIRTHDAY??? Go ahead the spotlight is yours ig #chilis #fyp
In a video posted earlier this week, a guy is fuming that his boyfriend ordered fajitas on his birthday. Obviously, when one gets served fajitas at a restaurant a lot of drama and fuss comes with the big sizzling plate. It’s common to hear gasps of oohs and ahh. When it’s your birthday, all oohs and ahh should be for you, right? The TikTok battle of fajitas on a birthday began.
The comment section is divided on whether this is a problem or not, with some simply not getting it. What is the etiquette here?
A follow up TikTok then came out that fuelled fires further.

In a video captioned “This is Bday etiquette 101”, @ashadaviid said “It was his birthday dinner and his friend beside him ordered fajitas, and I thought it was so funny because my biggest pet peeve is people ordering fajitas at birthday dinners. I think it’s the most disrespectful thing you could possibly do at somebody’s birthday.
“I would rather someone show up late than order fajitas at my birthday dinner, and here’s why. Nine times out of 10 when you order fajitas, because I myself am a fajita orderer, not on anyone’s birthday or special occasion but I do order them in my spare time. And nine times out of 10 they’re gonna bring those fajitas out before anybody else’s food. Why? I don’t know. But if you’ve noticed, fajitas get brought out before everybody else’s food.
“Not only do they get brought out, they could get their own little celebratory bringing out. It’s baffling, honestly. It’s already sizzling, so that’s enough. You got a little wooden board under your plate. They do the most, fajita orderers. The waiter always coddles the person who orders fajitas. I do not like that.
“They’re always saying ‘watch out it’s hot, let me move this for you’ – like, not too much. It’s a fajita. You’re doing too much on my big day.”
You know what, I don’t know if I ever thought about about this prior to this week – but I agree with EVERY word.
