Let’s be honest: What is the point of watching Love Island 2024 now Uma isn’t there?
We should have all followed our girl out of the villa
Question for you all. Do you know how emotionally invested I actually need to be in Love Island to shed actual tears? For context, I cry at a lot and I cry often. But my general apathy with Love Island means it’s the kind of show that very rarely gets me to that brink. I watch Love Island with disdain. But one person this year has got me completely and utterly on side, and seeing her leave made me cry my eyes out. I am of course talking about the utterly godly Uma – who has far and away for me taken this series of Love Island 2024 as her own and become an all-time great Islander. For so many reasons. And now that she’s gone, I can’t help but tune in with an overwhelming sense of “what’s the point”? Because without Uma, what purpose does Love Island 2024 actually serve in my life? Beyond disappointment.
Uma WAS Love Island 2024 – and here’s why we should give up on the show after the show gave up on her.
They could never make me hate you
There was this bizarre narrative at the start of the show where Twitter kind of hated Uma for no reason. Well, there was a reason – the show liked to have her pitted as this sort of evil rival to Mimii who was taking Ayo away. Mimii and Ayo had barely even began, but there was an investment in the two of them from the public because they hit it off straight away and we love all of that. But Uma was just doing her thing, and that was all dispelled by the fact Uma and Mimii got really close and Uma met Wil.

Quickly, Uma established herself as someone in the villa everyone wanted to be around. Absolutely stunning looking, potentially one of the all time great Love Island face cards in the history of the show. But also someone who was the first to pick up the pieces when any of the girls were down and had wise words for all. Just a really great Islander and a warm person you’d want to watch at any time.
Her and Wil were literally my winners
I fancied Wil a lot, and I thought he and Uma had a really organic dynamic that felt so full of spark and potential. Obviously he was a bellend at Casa Amor and handled the aftermath even WORSE – and then completely made a tit of Uma at Movie Night with whatever the hell was going on there. He was just digging a worse hole for himself, and Uma still handled it all like a pro. Love her so much.
The way Uma held Mimii together after the Casa Amor recoupling and then the way Mimii had her right back after Movie Night was the most special friendship moment of the series for me.
The fact Wil and Uma patched it all up and were in a good place before the cruel recoupling lead to an unceremonious and emotional dumping just felt unfair. They were honestly my winners. I love couples who’ve gone through the wringer but clearly still like each other a lot.
Carrying on with the show now Uma has left Love Island 2024 honestly just feels horrible. The villa is a shadow of its former self. Uma has left a mature, graceful and warm hole in the villa that I don’t think anyone else can fill. She left the villa with her head held high, but she took our will to live with her.
