A cheeky peek inside the incredibly private life of House of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell
He has absolutely zero social media
House of the Dragon has Game of Thrones fans everywhere GRIPPED. It’s the prequel we always dreamed of and it features an absolutely stellar cast, Ewan Mitchell being no exception. Playing Prince Aemond Targaryen in the show, Ewan is a far cry for his determined and relentless character and is actually being incredibly private in real life. So private in fact, that he actually has no social media. Here’s a look inside the life of Ewan Mitchell when he’s not riding dragons on House of the Dragon.
Ewan is 27 and is from Derby
After groing up in Derby, Ewan first got into acting when he was 18, after attending a two-year vocational school and being accepted to train at the Central Junior Television Workshop in Nottingham. His family couldn’t afford drama school fees, but that didn’t stop him landing a supporting role in the film High Life back in 2018 alongside Robert Pattinson, as well as a number of other productions.
He knew he wanted to be an actor when he was only 13 years old
With an older brother, Ewan claims his parents expected him to follow his footsteps and work at the the aerospace and industrial technology company, Rolls-Royce. But after watching films like Citizen Kane and Taxi Driver, Ewan knew that acting was the career for him.
He told The New York Times how when he was 13, he was asked by his teacher what he wanted to become when he grew up and whilst other students detailed their ambitions to become engineers and electricians, Ewan had a different answer. He said: “Then it came to me, and I said, ‘I’m going to be an actor,’ and everyone laughed at me.”

Still living in his hometown of Derby, Ewan lives with his family and spends a lot of time with them. He also shares his home with his three whippets, Eva, Bella and Bonnie. His roots are a bit part of his personality, with House of the Dragon casting director, Kate Rhodes James, describing him as a “very intense northern boy” to a show runner who asked about him. That’s a mighty compliment, if you ask me.
He loves a period drama, previously acting in The last Kingdom
Ewan’s breakout role was actually in The Last Kingdom, where he stole the show as Osferth. He held onto the role from the second to the fifth series before moving onto BBC One show World War II show, World on Fire. He clearly has a type.
Ewan clearly has a soft spot for drama and fantasy roles, or maybe he just likes getting dressed up in all that fake armour. And after playing such a dominating character on House of the Dragon, most viewers probably wouldn’t have recognised him from Saltburn, where he plays Oliver’s needy, nerdy friend at Oxford. So to be fair, he really can do it all.
He’s super friendly and is always stopping for fans when out and about

Despite not having social media, photos of Ewan are still all over social media from fans after bumping into him all over the world. Ewan has stopped for photos in airports and even in the street, cementing his title as a fan favourite among House of the Dragon fans everywhere.
