The ultimate Cambridge student’s guide to Galentine’s Day
Platonic love is JUST as important
Chronically single? Hate Valentine’s Day? Me too. On February 14th I shall be crying into my pillow, but if the tears have run dry, here are some fun alternatives:
Dinner date
Who said dinner dates are just for couples? Single people can enjoy good food and wine too. Grab a few friends and visit an old favourite, or try something new. Spend so much money you cry about your bank balance and not the fact that you’re probably going to die alone.
Restaurant suggestions:
- Yori BBQ
- Pint Shop
- Riverbar Steakhouse and Grill
- Thanh Binh
- Mercado Central
- Gardies (if you’re on a budget and/or smashed)
Or, if the student loan is running a little low, cook for yourselves! A group dinner is a fun activity (especially if you just sit there on TikTok and let your friends do it all, as pictured below).
Jack’s
If in doubt, Jack’s.
There’s something very early 2000s rom-com about crying into a tub of ice cream about how lonely you are. Why watch Bridget Jones’s Diary when you can live it?
Watch some student theatre!
There’s ALWAYS something to watch. You can enjoy some good entertainment and support fellow students without breaking the bank. On February 14th you can see:
- Fairview – ADC Theatre @ 7.45pm
- Dragtime! Presents: Simply The Rest – ADC Theatre @ 11pm
- Constellation Street – Corpus Playroom @ 7pm
- Kill My Darling – Corpus Playroom @ 9.30pm
Also on the 13th at 11pm, there is a Footlights Love Smoker at the ADC.

Laugh (or cry, depending on the show) your way through Valentine’s Day with some unique student writing and performance.
Coffee date
Grab a coffee and a lovely (preferably also single) friend to discuss your chronic single-ness. Knoops’ loyalty programme means, according to girl math, your drink is basically free.
Get on the academic grind
You know you still have that essay due Thursday, right? Don’t be like us (despair pictured below):
You’ve been dropped by every love interest, don’t let your grades drop too.
Wednesday revs
This year, Valentine’s Day coincides with Wednesday revs – how lucky are we? If you’re single and lonely on Valentine’s, the obvious solution is dressing up, taking cute photos, and getting absolutely smashed with your friends.
And if you still feel lonely… maybe try Hinge?
