New ranking names Glasgow as the 30th best city in the world to travel to

Glasgow was the only Scottish city to earn a place on Time Out’s highly anticipated annual list

Each year, many prospective travellers await Time Out’s list of 50 best cities in the world. This year, Glasgow nabbed a spot.

Scottish city was the only one of its nation to have a spot on the list which serves as inspiration of great destinations for travellers, providing a detailed insight into what it is that makes a city worth the visit.

To ensure the consideration of perspectives from those across the world, Time Out conducts an annual poll to discern the factors that urban dwellers believe make a city an exciting place to live and travel to.

Collecting thousands of responses globally, the poll accounts for factors such as food, culture, entertainment and the feeling the city evokes in those that live there. The media company additionally incorporate responses from their well travelled writers and editors alongside this data.

From Glasgow’s vast array of pubs and nightlife to the rich culture that can be found anywhere from the Kelvingrove Museum to the Barras Market, it’s easy to see why the city was able to surpass contenders such as Barcelona, Sydney and San Francisco to become the only Scottish city and one of only four UK cities to make the cut.

Time Out justified their placement of Glasgow by citing its number of high quality yet affordable restaurants. The city’s world-renowned music scene and its architectural gems that have led to it recently being named the best place for an architectural city break in the UK.

Perhaps most importantly, Time Out recognised that Glasgow is the only city proudly home to Glaswegians. The sense of community and passion that those who live in Glasgow bring to the atmosphere of the city is second to none and has undoubtedly contributed to its whopping 92 per cent happiness rating.

It just goes to show, Glasgow’s personality speaks volumes around the globe and has helped to earn it a well deserved top spot for 2024.
