Selena Gomez is being slammed for making what’s happening in Gaza ‘all about herself’
‘I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag’
Selena Gomez is being slammed online for her “tone-deaf” decision to take a break from social media.
Selena posted an Instagram story explaining the reasoning behind her break, writing that her heart is breaking to “see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world.” She went on to apologise if “her words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag.”
Fans are particularly angry with the last few sentences in her story in which she writes, “I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.” People feel like Selena is “downplaying her massive following and being hypocritical,” as well as making the situation in Gaza “all about herself.”

In her full story, she wrote: “I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific.
“We need to protect all people, especially children and stop the violence for good. I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt.
“That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.”
Her statement has caused massive backlash online with fans feeling like she’s being hypocritical as last year she made a statement on the crisis in Ukraine, condemning the attacks and publicly announcing that she was donating aid.
"I wish I could change the world. But a post wont."
Shame on you Selena Gomez. You have 430 million followers yet people with less followers be doing so much more.
Our voices are being heard. You are just ignorant.

One Redditor shared their opinion on her story, saying “Way to guilt trip Selena. The problem isn’t you not saying the right thing. It’s you liking pro-Israel posts.” Selena was seen liking Amy Schumer’s “controversial” posts on Instagram, which have also been highly criticised.
