The march around the city named 'Reclaim the Night' took place on Friday from Tower Bar, in support of a zero tolerance policy towards sexual assault.

Organised by the SU's Womens Officer, Alexandra Bentley, it was stressed that everyone was welcome in an opportunity to take a stand together against the issue.

Nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted in England and Wales each year, with one in five women in England and Wales experiencing some type of sexual assault since the age of 16.

Statistics from the Crime Survey for England and Wales show more than 510,000 women, (an estimated 3.1% of all women aged 16 to 59) have experienced some type of sexual assault in the past year.

But it's not just women affected. An estimated 138,000 men experienced some type of sexual assault in the past year and 646,000 have experienced sexual assault since they were 16.
