A British tourist is in intensive care after falling from a nightclub window in the Croatian city of Split.

The 19-year-old boy, who has not yet been named, was out with friends when he reportedly jumped from an open window at about 2am on Monday morning.

The reveller suffered head trauma and several broken bones after landing on the street below.

He was quickly rushed to a local hospital, where he is still fighting for his life.

Tropic, the beachfront nightclub where the incident took place, is popular with British tourists as part of the famous “Ziggy Star Pub Crawl”.

Witnesses claim the teenager had been drinking, although police declined to comment.

A police spokesman said: “A 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries after apparently jumping out of a window in Split. We are still investigating.”

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth office said: “We can confirm the hospitalisation of a British national in Croatia on 27 July. Consular staff have visited the individual in hospital to provide support.”
