Cambridge bring back ‘sexist’ jelly wrestling after a three year hiatus
Are you bikini body ready?
For the first time in three years, the Wyverns Garden Party 2015 will see the return of its infamous jelly wrestling competition.
The shock announcement was made by the Magdalene College drinking society’s spurious social media mascot, Johnnie Wyvern, earlier today.
The contest was shut down in 2013 after a petition calling for its cancellation on the grounds of ‘sexism’ attracted more than 1,100 signatures.

Yeah that inclusivity seems legit
The petition’s organiser, Nina De Paula Hanika, felt “deeply saddened to not only attend a university where this takes place, but to be associated with this event simply by attending Magdalene.”
This year, the organisers have been careful to stress that “participants of any gender” are welcome to “take on [their] champion.”

Last year’s event replaced the pool with pole dancers
Despite this having always been the case, photographs of bikini-clad girls egged on by male drinking society members led to some students calling it “misogynistic”, “embarrassing”, and “plain wrong.”
A spokesman for the drinking society wrote on its blog: “Yes, jelly wrestling at the Wyverns’ Garden Party is set to make a return this year in a form never before seen in Cambridge.”
The blog goes on to invite all willing drinking societies to “put forward a champion” to challenge the Wyverns’ own, marking the first time that the organisers intend to directly participate in the contest.
“This decision was not part of some cheap ruse to see women get down to their bikinis, rather it was prompted by a strange twist of fate, the birth of a legend, the discovery of a talent.”
The Tab is awaiting response from Miss De Paula Hanika.
