He was one goal away from clearing his overdraft

When Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night, millions wept.

But for one fresher, his dreams of a summer holiday and clear overdraft were dashed by an 87th minute equalising goal.

Jason West had placed £5 on a 14 fold accumulator – with potential winnings of almost £1,500.

The bet included games from England, Brazil and Argentine, as well as the two games between the European elite. But David Luiz’s netted in the 86th minute against his old club leveled the score at 1-1, ruining Jason’s hopes of a huge windfall with massive odds of 298/1.

The 21-year-old Northumbria third year said: “It’s probably the worst day of my life. I was with my girlfriend when I found out. She asked me if I wanted to go out for dinner. I just said: ‘Don’t talk to me.’

“When David Luiz scored there were still three games to play in Brazil and Argentina. So I forgot about it and went to bed.

“When I woke up and checked it I found out they all won.

“I was pretty gutted. I spoke to bet 365 and they refused to give me a free bet.”

Hapless Jason, a business student from Stockton-on-Tees, was broken at the news.

He added: “When I say the odds out loud it makes me feel even worse.

“All my mates are going on holiday and I can’t afford it. I would’ve been able to go. I would’ve been able to clear my overdraft as well. It will be another six months till I’m able to start working it off.

“I’m just thinking this shouldn’t be happening to me.”

When Jason begged for his money back, Bet 365 refused to refund his stake. But The Tab could not ignore Jason’s plight, and donated him the fiver he lost.

A delighted Jason said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get my fiver back.

“I’ll be sure to put it on another 14 fold and if it wins I’ll share it with Tab man Tom.”
