5 ways to spend Valentine’s Day if you’re single
So Valentine’s Day has come around again, a time for loved up couples to rub their love in everybody’s faces and for all the lonely singletons to hole themselves up and wait for the dreaded 24 hours to pass.
But fear no longer singletons as we bring you the Top 5 ways to spend your Valentine’s Day and maintain your sanity (and possibly even have fun)!
1.Cinema
An oldie but a goodie -what better way to avoid couples than by sitting in a darkened room for two hours. To avoid the couples, steer well clear of the soppy romcons. Instead, why not try the complete opposite of romance and head to the Braid Theatre where they’re showing the classic ‘My Bloody Valentine’ at their drive in theatre? Or down to Movie House to hang with the people who won’t judge you for being alone on Valentine’s Day, and relive your childhood with the The Lego Movie instead. Worst case scenario in that if you end up crying about being alone, at least you’ll be in a dark room with loud noises to drown it out.

Makeshift cinema always works as a cheap optiion
2. Try something Different
There is a surprising amount of events on around Belfast that have nothing remotely lovey-dovey to do with it. You could support your local rugby team at the Ulster vs. Scarlets match and be the envy of all your rugby loving mates that are stuck forking over for an over-priced dinner and flowers.
Or for something a bit more music based the hip-hop duo Scroobius Pip and Dan Le Sac are playing at Limelight, and at least if they’re not your cup on tea there is plenty on alcohol on hand to improve the sound. Comedy wise, Sarah Millican is playing at the Waterfront Hall and although she is technically ‘sold out’ students are a wily bunch and you could definitely scrounge up a couple of tickets from somewhere.

Trying a new flavour of pizza totally counts as well
3. Get active
Being single is one thing, but single with a good body and the world (or dating pool) is your oyster. Although going to the gym may seem like the most depressing way to spend Valentine’s Day, exercise is proven to release endorphins and the best bit is you only need 10 minutes to get yourself feeling good. It also totally justifies the binge session you plan later, not to mention the satisfaction you’ll get when in a couple of weeks you bump into your ex and show them everything they’re missing. And you never know, the gym has been said to be a great place to pull.

It’s not that scary, honest
4. See what you’ve been missing
Whether it’s that book that you’ve been meaning to read before the film came out or that series on Netflix that you missed the first time around cough- Breaking Bad-cough, Valentines is the perfect day to try it. As it falls on a Friday this year you have a whole weekend free from the liabilities of work you can stay in bed and binge watch and read all day, then show off to your friends when you next see them by casually dropping into conversation how cultured you became over the weekend.

One more episode can’t hurt…
5. Get Drunk
This is the failsafe, have a great Valentine’s Day, no matter what plan. Get some friends, some music and some alcohol and drown your sorrows. Telling relationship horror stories around a bottle of vodka is a sure-proof way to have a great time, not to mention reassuring yourselves that you’re better off out of this whole Valentine’s Day mess anyway. Tindr also provides a great amount of amusement, not to mention might give you some possibilities for next Valentine’s Day.

The only relationship you’ll ever need
