Woman goes in to labour in Ricky Road

The act of making babies is extremely familiar with the residents of Ricky Road, but it’s rare that one is almost delivered there!

Last week during Freshers, AU officer Katie Rimmer’s duties were put to the test as she found a collapsed pregnant woman in the Richardson Road accommodation.

Whilst walking back an overly inebriated 1st year to his halls, Katie and her friend came across a pregnant woman who had gone in to labour in the centre of Ricky Road

Katie said: “I just saw a woman crying and breathing really deeply, she pointed to her stomach and said she was pregnant”.

The woman who spoke limited English told Katie she had tried to call for an ambulance but it was taking too long so had decided to tackle the walk to the Royal Victoria Infirmary herself.

Confused of her whereabouts and clearly in a lot of pain the woman got lost in Ricky Road and was luckily found by Katie who walked her to the hospital where the midwives swiftly took her in and looked after her.

Katie summed up the event saying: ” I literally felt like I was in a film”.

It’s unknown how the woman and the baby are doing, but fingers crossed all is good.

Maybe she took some name inspiration and we’re welcoming in a baby Ricky to the world.
